My most recent....evolved understanding, if you will (the rules change so frequently, it is hard to keep up), is that if they have a beard, they cannot give the "talk" at the kingdom hall. It definitely doesn't say that in the Bible. And before man invented razors, all men had beards...including Jesus.

I am not a Jehovah's Witness, but I had done a bit of reasearch on their beliefs.

Generally, there does not seem to be anything specific in Watchtower literature that explicitly forbids beards, but there are instances where it is strongly suggested that Witnesses should not wear one:

In the Watchtower magazine, "Questions from Readers " section, under the question: "When Jesus Christ was a man on earth, did he wear a beard?", it answers:

"Today Christian ministers, like the early Christians, are concerned with neatness and cleanness, but they strive to dress inconspicuously, so that their appearance does not in any way detract from the dignity or the effectiveness of the message they bear. (2 Cor. 6:3, 4) In recent years in many lands a beard or long hair on a man attracts immediate notice and may, in the minds of the majority, classify such a person undesirably with extremists or as rebels against society. God's ministers want to avoid making any impression that would take attention away from their ministry or hinder anyone from listening to the truth. They know that people are watching true Christians very critically and that to a great extent they judge the entire congregation and the good news by the minister's appearance as a representative of the congregation. In paradise restored on earth it would not be out of order if men returned to wearing beards, in perfect fashion, like Adam in Eden." (The Watchtower, May 1, 1968, p. 286).
Another Watchtower source, under the heading: "Do Not Let Yourself Be Ensnared by Fads and Entertainment", states:

A man in my congregation who has been a JW for years has a full beard. One knocked on my door years ago before I came into the truth with a beard too.
Shows you are wrong!

Most men prefer to be clean shaven, are you saying that there is somewhere in the Bible where they can't be?

There isn't any rule or anything about J/W's not being able to wear beards. In England the J/W's wear them. Really most J/W's over here just think that shaving your face is more of a appropiate thing. Sort of like ok you know how its appropiate to wear a suit to church. You don't have to do it its just a more appropiate thing to do. I hope you understand what I am trying to explain.

Which is odd because the Bible commands men to have beards:

(Leviticus 19:27) "You must not shave or cut the corners of the hairs of your head and you are not to trim the edge of your beard."

And let's not forget:

(Ezekiel 44:20) "And their heads they must not shave and long hair they must not grow. They must trim their heads."

So quite obviously all men are commanded to have well-trimmed - but not shaved - hair and beards. It's not hard to find evidence, though, that so-called Jehovah's Witnesses don't like beards:

"In recent years in many lands a beard or long hair on a man attracts immediate notice and may, in the minds of the majority, classify such a person undesirably with extremists or as rebels against society. God's ministers want to avoid making any impression that would take attention away from their ministry or hinder anyone from listening to the truth." (The Watchtower, May 1, 1968, p. 286).

In other words, they are afraid of being percieved as nut-cases, so because of the influence of Satan they wish to change their ways. A true Christian is beyond such petty fears, takes no heed of Satan's machinations, and follows only God.

There is no rule against JW's having beards. You just haven't been around. They are allowed to have beards, it's just that most of them choose not to.
