I recently received a Yahoo violation notice for my Answer to a Question. I was not gross with my answer. I told the truth. So my question: “ Is telling the truth to someone that is ignorant, or just does not have the foggiest idea of the potential consequences of a certain subject or event, wrong”?

A simple example would be if a person was going to pick up a poisonous snake and did not know it was poisonous, but you knew it was poisonous, would you tell them?

It is sad these days that the “Truth” has become Politically Incorrect. Beam me up!!!

It not my intent to quantify all the scenerious of truth....or the meaning of truth.

I was responding to a question about AID's in Africa and the potential demise of many people in that country.

From what I understand it is a very serious issue.

I meant no disrespect to anyone. I was trying as tactically as possible, without specifics (the TRUTH) why that is happening.

I did feel bent-out-of-shape when my answer was censured by Yahoo!.

You don't give the relevant detail needed for us to see whether it was a true violation of the Guidelines, or a boo-boo on Yahoo's part.

Read the Guidelines, please.

If what you said insulted the person (which I suspect, from the tone of your query; calling someone 'ignorant' is an insult -- however true it might seem to be to you), then it violated the Guidelines.

It wasn't the truth of it that was the problem, but the insult.

If what you said did NOT violate the Guidelines, click Forum (top right), then Wrongful Violations and make your case there.

If you are not willing to keep it civil, and otherwise in accordance with the Guidelines you agreed to abide by when you signed up on this site, then don't use this site.

The Bible says that liars cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven. When Pilate asked Jesus "What is truth?" the truth was staring him in the face and he could not see it. Pilate was in fact saying that he did not know what truth was.

Truth needs to be defined. There are two truths: the truth of God and the truth of men. The truth of God is contained in his word, the bible. It is eternal and unchangeable, just as Jesus Christ is. Hebrews 13:8 says, "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever." The truth of God is infallible, in that it never fails. the truth of men come from men and is fallible because men are fallible. It is temporary and must pass away because this world is passing away.

It is never wrong to tell the truth, no matter how much it may hurt the other person. If you can not tell them the truth, then you have no credibility before God, and God is the only person that you must please. Paul cautions us not to be pleasers of men, because pleasers of men do things that are contrary to the truth of God.

This kind of analogy is often given by Christians as a support for their proselytizing.

It sounds to me as if you were passing off your *beliefs* as *the truth.*

There are sometimes that telling the truth is great. Just say it straight up, but sometimes it could hurt people. You should be able to notice when you should be totally straight up and maybe be then kind of lie to make your friend feel better. So you should tell the truth, like when there was a murder and you saw it. You should tell the police what happened. But when your friend just totally embarrassed herself in front of a crowd because she passed gas. Then you should comfort her and not laugh at her. That is all I am saying. I Hop this helps unravel our confused mind.

It depends on what your "Truth" refers to. Yes the poisonous snake thing is right but if your "Truth" is on a spiritual level then you are treading on thin ice. One person's "Truth" is another person's "AntiTruth" and is not welcome. Add to this "Truth" the way it is delivered ( Mean spirited or in arrogance) then Political correctness really has nothing to do with it. You are seen as what you are----intolerant and that has always been "incorrect".

I think in some cases telling the truth is wrong. Ex. A boy got his crush a movie. When he asked her if she liked it, she said no. She told me that she didn't want to lie to him because lying is bad. I told her I would have and she said ' I know'. The difference - God wouldn't want you to hurt your brother in Christ's feelings. She can't see that. In some ways, telling the truth isn't always the best policy.

If the truth was presented in a mean-spirited manner, and the truth was mere opinion (for example, quoting scripture), then yes, it's wrong.

You have to be aware that many members here are immature or socially inadequate and they'll report you just for expressing a viewpoint they don't like. I just delete the violations without reading them.
