Free will defense of the existence of God in light of the problem of evil goes something like this:

Q: If God is both good and all-powerful, how could evil exist?
A: God values giving humans free will more than the non-existence of evil and its accompanying miseries. For humans to have free will, they must be given the "freedom" to choose to do evil.

Questions I have with this:

1. The Christian Bible seems to suggest that it is quite possible for a human to have free will, even in the absense of the ability to choose evil. People in heaven, for instance, seem to be portrayed as lacking the ability to choose evil, and I've never heard of anyone complaining about a lack of free will in heaven.

2. Where is this free-will defense actually found in the Bible?

Any takers?

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.
For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath
Life's a piece of ****
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death'sa joke it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

Please only answer if you are Jewish or have thoroughly studied Judaism and really know what you’re talking about.

When I say “belief in God”, I’m referring to the belief that most Christians have that there is a higher being who is basically in control of everything. Obviously I know that Christians believe that Christ is their God/the son of God, while Jews do not. But do Jews believe that their God is in control of things in the same way that Christians believe Christ is?

I have a question about yahoo answers,
in the below question,
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArqpKtEskIeaL0yEFwrq_xvsy6IX?qid=20070310150548AAQmbSm
Did the person asking this question imply that all non-christians are atheists?

I'm not sure but I think theres a possibility that the asker is intelligent enough to know that not all non-christians are atheists.

Also, is it possible that the asker wasn't really being "serious" but just sorta, you know, playing around.

Also, when you read someone answer a Jim Darwin question with "no its Charles Darwin" do you feel like they are not in on the joke and do you just want to reach out to them and hug them and say, no - the person is JIM Darwin, not Charles Darwin.

This was one of my late night questions that commonly keep me up for 4 or more hours in deep thought, but anyway. Think about what goes on in the world today. Terrorism, disease, natural disaster, destruction left and right, crime, and the increasing threat of nuclear war. So why would you worship a god that does nothing about it? God supposedly loves everyone, and yet he doesn't lift a finger to save even a single person.

I was watching a Katrina aftermath show and it had a man whose entire family was killed. Several children, a baby, and his wife. He said "Any god who does this to me is no god of mine". Makes perfect sense doesn't it? So why would anyone want to worship a god who doesn't protect his own followers?

It can't be that all those people who died deserved it, correct?

In my line of work I often talk to travelers that are making plans for the afterlife and occassionally I will talk to one that just refuses to pay the ferryman fee- two standard issue Roman gold coins, c.56BC. Why is it that people think the afterlife is going to be cheap?
