The man was phenomenal. I particularly enjoy one quote of his.
"You must be the change you wish to see in the world".

This, since I heard it, has become my guiding principle for life. So I try not to preach my beliefs, but to exemplify them. In particular, the line has governed several of my career moves. I used to work for a commercial company, but I wanted to see a change for the better in the world, so I conscientiously applied myself to searching for roles that could help me use my skills to help effect such changes - first I moved to work for a trade union, helping workers get a fair deal in a sector where they rarely do. And then I moved further, to a childcare charity that helped children who needed foster carers to find stable, safe homes. As a child of divorce, I knew the importance of that stability, and felt able to live up to the Mahatma's guidance in this way.

I also think he was an inspirational human being. He inspires me to the belief that change is possible with determination and love, no violence is necessary. He and Martin Luther King (who along with other civil rights leaders were in part inspired by Gandhi) showed us that violence is not necessary to remake the world and overcome violence and oppression where it exists. I think Gandhi is a great hero/role model to have.

He inspires me to believe that even the worst of people can change for the better. He went from being a woman-beater to a pacifist who led the country of India to a complete social reform. That, to me, is what every person should try to do in their life; find their calling, and get to it.

His words inspire me all the time.
In particular, I like this quote:
"It is unwise to be too sure of one's own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err."

Absolutely. He inspired to seek change in myself, and to change things through peace and love, rather than violence, for as the man himself said:

"Victory achieved through violence is tantamount to defeat, for it is momentary"
