The Bible says that once a man dies he does not return to his house. He goes either to Hades or Paradise.

Sometimes people leave here in an unexpected, or tragic way, and don't realize they are dead, or they have unfinished business, and need closure before they can go on thier way. A 27 year old woman who has just had a baby, and has her whole life to look forward to, may be quite surprised to suddenly die in an accident, where a 97 year old who has been in a hospital for 3 months would be a lot better prepared, know what I mean?
There is another school of thought that some times an event is so tragic as to have an energy of it's own, or some people have such strong energy, that it leaves a sort of psychic imprint on a place where they have died, or a place that they are attached to, and that imprint can remain, even if they have moved on. Personally, I believe in ghosts, and have had a couple of encounters along the way, one rather unsettling, and one seemed that the previous owner of a rocking chair was checking in to make sure her favorite chair was in good hands, and she moved on after a couple of weeks, her spirit has moved on, but I can feel a bit of her imprint on the chair...your milage may vary....

Sure I believe in ghosts. I know a lot of people that have seen them, talked with them, and things like that. Most of these people are perfectly normal, often good, clean minded christians.
Paul says "as for the dead, they are dead," They're supposed to be "sleeping" until the resurrection, and the final judgement. In the old testament, this state is called "sheol," and corresponds quite nicely to the hades of the greeks, which as we all know can be visited. They even raised the ghoust of Samuel in the old testament, who them prophesied Saul's death. People who sleep can wake up, talk in their sleep, or even go sleep walking. Some even claim they can have out of body experiences, and interract as if they were awake in some distant location.
Some people say that ghosts are just demons impersonating our dead loved ones to tempt us. Tempt us to what? How many people do you know that believe in ghosts and are any way more sinfull than those who don't? How many ghosts have you heard of that tell you to do something evil?
It doesn't make sense to me to believe that a vast number of demons carefully study the appearances, habits, and personalities of the living on the off chance that when they die, they can reappear to their loved ones, and in the vast majority of cases, just pat them on the heads, and tell them to be good in a believable way.

As a Buddhist, many of us believe in the concept of what we call the "formless realm" where you take "rebirth" if your karma and mind at death fits a certain criteria... so that would include what most people consider "ghosts" and/or if you simply stay stuck in what we call the "bardo" while confused, angry (maybe, say... due to a sudden traumatic death) and refused to move through the bardo into another rebirth.
If you're interested in more, Sogyal Rinpoche's book "The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying" is quite interesting and there are other books on such things available in online bookstores like snowlionpub.com and wisdompubs.org and many others.

I think an emotional signature might be left behind and The person may possibley come back down to earth if they are in heavan, as an angel. Ghosts might just be angels or a signature left behind by the dead.

I think that what happens after death is individualized. Some souls pass over and don't even realize they are dead. Others go in great joy and knowledge. Others are trapped within the nightmare of their own thoughts, hung up by events or wishing to cling to a specific place. These are the beings seen as "ghosts" and sometimes they need help to realize their plight and that there is a way they can go on.

No I do not believe in ghosts. I believe that when we die it is just like we are sleeping, at least until Jesus Christ comes again to take us to Heaven.
