im trying to write a one act about christmas, and the conflict that i want to have in the text is that of religion. i would like someone to be something other than christian or catholic. so can someone who is jewish, morman (sp), or anything else kind of help me out by giving me an overview of their beliefs (sp) (wow i fell stupid when it comes to spelling) specifically when it comes to jesus, and him being our savior?
(btw: the comment above about things "other than christian," i know that that is politically incorrect, but most people know what im trying to say... so just... please answer the question, and dont lecture me about how i worded it wrong.
thanks.

Thou shalt not have any Gods before me.
Thou shalt not kill.
How is it that human beings should kill and then idolize the prophet that they killed?
I honestly don't understand the Christian logic.

I think there is a lot of relevancy to the fact that Christianity is the wolrld's largest religion. I think this is due to Divine Providence. Take into consideration the following:

-- praising God, and enjoying the good will of all the people. And every day the Lord added to their group those who wer being saved. (ACTS 2:47)
Jesus Christ only lived 33 years, never went more than 30 miles from his home, never wrote a book, never was on tv, never made a cd or any multimedia source and YET

-- Jesus Christ has influenced the world more than any person;

-- Jesus Christ's existence separates history (ac or bc);

-- Jesus Christ has more books written about him than any person in history;

-- Jesus Christ is the Ruler of the largest religion in the world;

-- Jesus Christ had 11 apostles and numerous martyrs die excruciating deaths believing in the Messiah, the Son of God;

-- Jesus Christ fulfilled 300+ prophesies

...beliefs????

It's only fair. If we 'unofficially' recognize one religion through our laws, then we should recognize them all.

Most of us would, I think, agree that if creatures such as the Loch Ness Monster or Bigfoot ought to leave behind empirical evidence by which we might discover their existence. If no such evidence (or at least, no such convincing evidence) exists, one can reasonably conclude that the creatures themselves do not exist.

What about God? Although there is little or no satisfactory evidence for a Creator's existence (such evidence as would satisfy atheists, I mean), should we also assume that a Creator does not exist? In other words, does an absence of evidence constitute evidence of absence?

Or could God create a universe and leave no evidence of himself of it (perhaps deliberately? Another question...)? Leaving room, at least, for the possibility of a divine being?

I'm agnostic myself, in case anybody assumes that I'm trying to bash one "side" or the other. I suppose this question is directed mostly at atheists, but I'm looking for questions from all sides.

Alright so, assuming abortion is immoral (though according to the bible, it isn't: http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/says_about/abortion.html )
then, do abortion doctors go to hell as it says in this piece of fundementalist literature? http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/1009/1009_01.asp

This tract seems to make it pretty clear that abortion doctors are condemned to hell, yet, I remain skeptical of this whole deal (being an atheist, I always am a bit skeptical), I always hear that Christians don't go to hell, no matter what they do. So, if a Christian performs an abortion, does s/he go to hell? It seems that chick publications is saying that all abortion doctors go to hell.

So, which one is right, rhetoric A or B?

Getting baptized a Jehovah's witness I mean.

I just got baptized yesterday and decided to fast for three days, I figure if Jesus can do 40 days I can do three. I have EXTREMELY low body fat and was wondering if my muscles will atrophy after three days. I normally eat much more than the average person, but never gain weight. Its been one day and I'm STARVING, I'm going to be deciplined and go the whole 3 days, but was wondering what to expect. I'm already starting to feel slightly euphoric, anyone have experience fasting.

If this god of yours is so great, why am I convinced more and more everyday at him being a complete fable and fraud because I have something that's been described as "a doctor's worst nightmare" and without any cure whatsoever?

If anything, being stuck with this horrible disease is what pushed me towards Atheism to begin with. I prayed and prayed, but not a ******* thing happened. Still, nothing can be done. What kind of tyrant would do such a thing to a person? Why would this omnipotent creature even create it to begin with?

I can't see how you can sit there and tell me with a straight face that if this god of yours were real, he loves me and did it out of love and/or whatever. If he is real, he's nothing but a tyrant and I don't see how anyone can say otherwise, nor even consider worshipping such a monster. There isn't anything that can be gained from this, if he were real and loving, instead of fake or a tyrant, he'd make it go away.

All religions are divided into different denominations, sects, cults, schools, etc.

So why is it, whenever the subject of world religions come up, it is almost always the divisions within Christianity that get emphasized, while the divisions within other faiths are ignored?
