Read Revelation 11:19
"Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant. And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a great hailstorm."
I personnally think this means it is in heaven. I think the Bible does not talk about it because it had a point then was not the main focus anymore, if you understand what I mean.

Destroyed and/or melted down for the gold, at the time of the destruction of the temple, as the physical Ark no longer carried any importance. In Revelations, it is only presented as a symbol.
Of note, with the exception of the Most High Priests, no one else even looked at it until after the death of Christ, when the great curtain made of woven gold strands covering the Most Holy tore open to show that God's Spirit no longer resided there. The Priests had to crawl on their knees to get under it.

The Ark of the Covenant is in Heaven right now, in the Most Holy Place where Christ is mediating on our behalf. God has preserved the tables of stone with the ten commandments on them, and when the New Jerusalem descends out of Heaven, the Ark of the Covenant will come with it.

The ark of the covenant is an emblem for our genuine nature, or center self, like Jesus' use of the word temple and Noah's ark. They characterize a state of complete understanding transcending the psychological ego id.
