I am a maid at the wedding which was to take place in 3 days time. Her fiance is the one who called one of us (the maids) to say the wedding has been cancelled. Herself she hasn't said anything. Should I call or wait? Doesn't she owe us an explanation?

I was just wondering what I could use as an excuse when people ask me why I'm not wearing shoes and only socks when I go places. Any ideas on what I could say to people who ask about it?

The conversation I had with my professor and some peers led to the statment"You should never hit a girl under any cercomstances. I said that I would if I had to defend myself and the whole class got mad. So, is it reakky not ok to defend yourself against a girl if it means striking her?

My 19 yr old daughter's friend[a boy] always talks to me with his gold colored sunglasses on, I'd like to see his eyes, as in does he use drugs, is he lying etc? I think its disrespectful. What is your opinion? She's only known him a week and he does the same to her, even wearing them in class.

So I'm a graphic designer and always have friends and friends of friends asking me to design things for them.. posters, logo's, business cards etc.. I used to enjoy it and say yes, but now I find I don't have the time anymore, once I have gone to work, been to the gym, got home made dinner & done some cleaning, the last thing I want to do is do more work.. I have explained this to friends that ask for stuff to be done but it usually results in them begging or offering to pay.. I don't care about the money I woud rather watch tv or read a book in my spare time than do more design work.. I've really lost my passion for it lately and am getting more annoyed with requests of work from friends.. How do I say NO to them.. they keep begging or saying that there's no rush just when I get a chance to have a look for them.. and after they harp on it I usually cave and say yes and resent doing the work for them..
How can I get them to take no for an answer???

Do you think it's rude, or dis-respectful of me to say thanks, instead of Thank you, to adults and teachers? I really don't want to be rude, and it's a habbit of mine to say thanks, since I usually talk low, I can't say much... So, is it dis-respectful??? Because I know it's definitly not proper grammar to say thanks.. So, thank you to those who answer!~

I have a friend who is way too clingy to the point where I would consider ending the friendship. I have known her for almost 2 years. From day one she has acted like we were better friends than we actually are. She is a likeable person but just can't seem to figure out that my life does not revolve around her. I have 2 kids & am married. I honestly don't have the time, nor am I interested in talking on the phone with her everyday or seeing her several times a week. We honestly don't have a whole lot in common & she has personality traits that really get on my nerves. She calls a few times a day, almost everyday. She drops by all the time. Invites herself to stay for dinner. She can't seem to solve even the simplest of problems & is co-dependant on me. She has to call me about everything from a disagreement w/ her husband to telling me about a dream that she had. I'm honestly sick of it. I rarely answer the phone when she calls now. I know it sounds mean but she is driving me crazy!

I need to leave a note instructing my mailman to leave a package on the porch, but I don't know if I should just say "Dear Mailman..." So is there any other name I could say? I don't know if that's rude or not but I don't wanna call him "Mailman".

Have you ever called someone elegant?
What did you mean when you said that? Was it their dress, personality, demeanor, wisdom/hobbies?

Thanks

Surely parties are for having the maximum amount of fun in one go- and hang the consequences of the raging hangover the next day. I seem to be alone in my theory. Any other party animals out there?

I'm looking for a gift for some people at my bank. They've gone way beyond what was necessary and saved me a nice amount of money as well. What type of gift would you recommend as something that could be enjoyed by 4-5 people? Price range should be $50-75, perhaps up to $100.

I know viewings are like 9 hours a day. What is the belief or is it cultural that a family member/relative must always be there in the same room with the deceased. This is how it is in Croatia, and we continue the same tradition here in U.S. but why is this a tradition or where did it come from?

A girl that i used to work with up until about 3 weeks ago got married to a guy last December and about a month later, he was deployed to Iraq. He was supposed to come home in November for a while, and he was killed 3 days ago in Bahgdad. I feel so bad for her, she was so exited for him to come home. While we hit it off, and hung out outside of work a few times, we werent like best friends or anything...I feel like I should do something nice for her. Her aunt is also my boss and she is hurting too...I dont want to be overbearing b/c im not a really good family friend or anything. Some people from my work are pitching in to get flowers, but I was thinking I would send a small bouquet, or maybe a card to them just from me. How much is too much?

I have recently found the need to consider selling personal items, including wedding gifts (china, crystal, silverware, etc.), given to my husband and I over ten years ago. Our reasons are financial in nature and we have not used the items in many years if at all. The thought occured to me when I was shopping for a wedding gift recently and realized the monetary value of some items I have. I normally wouldn't have considered it further but we really could use the money right now.
