Look in your local yellow pages for "Elocution lessons." It's like acting classes for public speaking, and it will beat your bad speaking habits out of you. Good luck!

George Bush is that you? Na just kidding mate. I'm from New Zealand, and I used to go out with a girl from Atlanta Georgia, used to call her my southern bell, I think that Southern accents are cool. Don't change the accent, just be more precise in terms of phonetics. But like I said, the accents are way cool. If I had to choose between being Sawyer or Jack on lost I would be Sawyer, Matthew over Brad etc.. I have a heavy kiwi accent. That's really hard to fellow, its the fastest English speaking accent.

I would look into taking speech classes to help you with your accent as I suppose that is what you feel is keeping you from moving up. People can learn and un-learn accents with practice.

get a book from the library regaring speech an correct communication. always practice it so that it can be a way of living. keep slang and ebonics from coming out.

there are classes you can take I think... like public speaking... and other courses... try inquiring to institutions in your place and im sure you'll get the help you'll need..
