I'm going to my boss's house tonight for a going away party for someone at work. If I should, what should I bring? I can't afford much and it will be a last min thing.

My daughter-in-law's mom wants to decide everything regarding her daughter's shower even if it's being held at my home. Is this fair? I am on a very strict budget and the mother wants to spend way more than I do. I'd rather spend money on a gift for the baby and stick to a tight budget for the shower. Is this fair? Shouold I have to share expenses for the baby shower if the other mother is making all the decisions?

How about thanking someone u normally don't thank, saying hello, smiling, pointing out something positive someone has done, not negative, let a car merge in front for a change, hold the door open for someone, let an older person have your seat on the bus/train, its the little things that sometimes count the most.....can we have an international "be nice day" for a change??????

Before it was customary to tip only people like bartenders and waitors. But now so many people want a tip.....from the cashier at Starbucks to the taxi driver.

I am here at the front desk of a company, and we have a mailman who is just a real nice human being, who I'd like to appreciate. Moreover, I will be leaving this company soon too.
What can I gift? Just something sweet and small.

At least once a week, I end up having someone let an elevator door shut in my face. People used to at least act like they were trying to find the "open door" button, but now they just stand there and watch you as you wave and say "thanks anyway, I'll catch the next one".

Some new folks moved upstairs in the apartment over us. Since then, we regularly find them peeking out windows whenever we pull up, opening the door and peeking out, and so on. We just had some new furniture delivered and they watched the delivery man until he brought in the last piece of furniture! we used to ignore it, but it kind of creeps us out, becuase when you see them out, they are not friendly and will not speak. We have had a lot of break-ins in the complex too, could they be scoping the place? How should they be handled?

My family and I moved into a new area last summer and promptly had difficulty with a child who stomped his foot on my 5 year olds arm. His mothers reaction was to coddle him and ask 'why did you do that hon?', I was furious and said it didnt matter why but that it was unacceptable regardless. This started a year long ordeal with my kids being called names, yelled at, cursed at and generally made to feel scared and uncomfortable in their own home. I really want to stop all of this once and for all. Do you think it would be helpful if I were to mail a letter to the mother asking her for her help in solving the situation with our kids (not that they need to be friends but just so they leave each other alone and dont talk about each other negatively)? If so, what should I ask her? ie how do I word it so it does not sound like I am putting her down? If not, what should I do instead? I cant live like this anymore.

I don't like to touch or be touched by strangers, but I feel obligated to shake hands with someone I meet. I don't initiate any handshakes, but when their hand is extended right at me, I can't seem to get out of it. Is there a way to get out of it? I try to have something in my hands, but it doesn't work. Should I just suck it up and touch strange hands?

You know how hard nosed some neighbors can be. Prying over fences, looking through blinds. Cant smooch in peace, cant drink in peace, cant p*ss in peace. Every time the fella sees me he grabs a bunch of beads and prays for the lard to save my soul. When he sees my parents he tells em to rescue me or send me to a boot camp. You know how it is. This well meaning fellow is a real nuisance. I could cause him some physical hardship but considering his age and being honorable and chivalorous I decided upon a novel course of action. I dump alll kinds of animal tissue and bones into his vent and his house has started to smell like a morgue. The other day he had some people scouring his whole house and yard trying to fix the problem. Even I cant walk past his house without pinching my nose. Now I think the cops will move in thinking he is a serial killer and stowing away bodies in the basement. Should I stop or pour some deodoriser in his vent everytime I pass his walkway? Can he save my soul?

I know some people say that imitation is the highest form or flattery or why should it bother me because I don't have a patent on the style, but it does. My copycat neighbor across the street has a bigger house than ours--one of the nicest on the block (no big deal). Our builder had a natural looking fountain professionally installed before we bought the home. It sets our home apart from all the others and it gives our home its own individuality. This year I put spiral trees in two concrete pots on each side of our front door. Now these neighbors then bought bigger spirals and put them on each side of their front door. I took my spirals out and put in palms. We're in the midwest, so it is not something you see everyday--original. The neighbor walks across the street to our front entry area, landscaper in tow. They were looking at our fountain. Now they're having a fountain just like ours (only bigger) installed in the middle of their front lawn with real 7' palms. WTH?!?

I'm interested in why I got 5 thumbs downs, so far, on this answer: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070504052220AAZxMKr&r=w#NbUvWzS9UTcu2YS3Dn_A

In my opinion, I was polite, and answered her question completely. She wanted to know how to get the guy to stop, and I told her what to say to him (about going to HR to stop his harassment). I also added some clarification to her implied question about her excess 15 pounds. So why did I deserve all the thumbs downs?

i read where someone wants to make this a black and white thing it is not. if we are not aloud to carry guns then it makes us all targets as you are in the store so a%^ will come in and go off knowing no one can do anything at least now we can put the thought in the jerks mind to think again.please dont let the us become a danger to you and me. more then it is!

Following on from the topless fishtank question...

Does anyone else find it annoying that women can't go topless in public but men can? Most of them have bigger boobs than me!!

I vote it become illegal for men with man-boobs to go topless in public too! Who wants to see that?

Anyone agree? Or do you like to see pasty saggy ones flopping past you in the park when you're eating your icecream?

;-)
