I always run on time and feel ashamed if I am late to anything. I am not obsessed but feel that if you are invited somewhere you should show the host the respect of being there when invited.. It just seems these days that nobody is on time and running late is the norm. where has this lack of respect come from...are people so full of their own importance or am I just not seeing something.

A while ago a friend and I took care of the nursery during a wedding that I would say wasn't more than 45 minutes long. The bride and groom paid us $25 each. Recently the same friend and I watched the nursery again for a gathering that was two hours long and we were paid $5 each. (The person paying was different than the one that paid us at the wedding.) The man that paid us the $5 is now "requesting" that we do the nursery for his wedding. Would it be improper of me to ask how much we were getting paid? I'm not sure if I even want to watch the nursery for this guy now. It sounds a bit greedy, I know, but tell me what you think.

When a bunch of people are riding an elevator, and it comes to a stop, is a man supposed to let the women get off first? What about if I am closest to the door? then, is it ok to get off first?

Cause I always say "good" when the grammatically correct word to use would be "fine"... does this bother people enough that I should switch to saying "fine"... what do you think? Or do you think I am just out of my mind and should shut up before I hurt myself?

I had posted a preious question about avoiding neighbours, one thing that really bugged me is that they all wanted to know the exact company i work at? I really did not want them to know for privacy issues so i lied and told them a different company, then when i saw them they would say so "still working at____ , hows it going"?

I do not know where any of these people live nor do i care. Am i obligated to people who live in my building what company i work at? Do you think i should have lied?
how do you avoid this?
The only person who knows is the landlord.

My sister-in-law sent a box of graduation items for my son's upcoming high school graduation. Among the items is a box about 18 inches square with a slot in the top that is intended for people to put monetary gifts into. I have never experience this before and it seems like the same thing as walking around with you hand out expecting money. Is this a common thing now or would it be tacky to have it sitting out on one of the tables at the party?

My SIL (husband's brother's wife) invited my husband and I up for a weekend and visit a few wineries in the area. It's a 4 hour drive for us, and we're stopping to pick up my in-laws on the way so they can watch our 2 little nieces while the four of us go for an overnight.

At first, I thought this was a great idea, but now I am having real issues with it. 3 weeks after she asked, my SIL called to say she checked hotel prices and they couldn't afford to go. (She wants to stay in a very fancy resort - rooms start at $175 and that's a fold out bed). I guess she also told my MIL, because a day later, I got another call from SIL saying my ILs were paying for their room & the trip was back on. My MIL called us and said they'd pay for our room too, which neither my husband nor I agree with. We're in our 30s and feel we should pay for our own hotel rooms. But she didn't want us to say anything to BIL because it would make them feel bad. I just don't know what to do or say!

I hate them with a passion. Nothing says "I'm a self important jerk" like those stupid little ear peices. I can understand that having your hands free can sometimes be important, like while you drive or like me I work in a call center and need my hands to use my computer. But what I don't need to do is just walk around, go to the bathroom, eat my lunch, shop. And then the people who are using that thing they may suddenly start speaking and because you don't see that thing in their ear you think "Are they speaking to me?" or you may even ask them to which your told no and more often then not ignored. Come on, with todays unlimited calling plans with cellphones more and more people are glued to the cellphones and even conduct their daily business while on the phone, ignoring the people around them as they step into that bubble of self importance that says "Screw everyone elses ****, mines more important." I can only hope as you babble on your phone you don't see that truck.

my daugher, who is 24, to go to a comedy concert. The tickets were $50 a peice and we reserved a very nice room for the night to be split 4 ways. My daughter bailed at 5:00 the night before. So my sister brought another friend of hers that couldn't afford anything but a few drinks and her own dinner. My sister paid for her ticket plus this other girl's and since I am the only one with credit card, I had to pay for this other girls 1/4 of the room. I have talked to the other girl and she makes decortive outside things and I would take those in trade and she said fine since it is hard for her to get money. My sister says I'm being unreasonable and shouldn't ask her for anything since the trip was sprung on her and my daughter bailed. I said my daughter is 24 and not a child and if you want money, you get it. She doesn't live here and has a good job. And/or should have asked someone that could have afforded to go. What is your opionion? Thanks Everyone!

I have lived upstairs from this family for 12 years. Over the past 3 years they have started complaining to us, the landlord, anyone who will listen, about ALL the noise we are making..honestly we are only living, we are not drinkers or drug users, we have 2 small kids. It has turned into harrasment. I wake up each morning tense at the thought of living. Moving isn't an option right now. I need some ideas to reduce walking noise, or reduce neighbor noise!

We received a college graduation announcement from my sister-in-law's sister. We don't really know her that well, but I don't know what the proper etiquette is here. Should we send a gift? If so, what type of gift and what's an appropriate amount of money to spend? (She's going straight on to grad school.)

Just in case something bad happens in the world, I keep a stash of, "survival food," under my bed. This includes things like canned tuna, canned chilly, and canned fruit cocktail. Nothing really bad has happened yet, and all of these cans have, "use by" dates. Would it be wrong to whip up some tuna casserole for a date using this food? (None of it is expired, but it's close.)

Hi, I own an unfinished furniture retail store and I was wondering if anyone agrees with the way I deal with snooty customers: I kick them out.Our store has been around for over 16 years and our customers love us,always trying to be helpful and give great customer service. But I have the biggest problem trying to stay friendly with the people who come in and expect me to throw rose petals infront of their feet and wait on them hand and foot.I realize my customers are my bread and butter but I'm only willing to go so far when they show such arrogance. One customer got so mad I told her 10-year-old son to stop climbing on our displays, I had no right to discipline her son, blah, blah, so I asked her to leave.Another lady threw a hissy fit because I made her pay a 10% restocking fee for an item normally non-returnable,so I asked her to take her business elsewhere. To me,it's all about respect, give it to get it and customers are NOT always right. Anyone agree?

Okay, here's the story: I'm having an 80th b-day surprise party for my grandma. A portion of her closest family members are Witnesses. They have verbally agreed to attend the party and calling it a family reunion, because we are bringing together family from all over the country. Now I am about to print invitations and would like to know what I should put on the invitations to them? Should I just send the same invitations as I send to everyone else? Or, should I send them invitations saying something like this: ".....invited to a family reunion for the family and friends of Mrs._____ on the day before her 80th year of life." Or, something else entirely? It will not cost extra to have two sets printed and I don't wish to offend or deter anyone.
