My girlfriend and I won passes to the Playmate of the Year Luncheon at the Playboy Mansion. I'm thinking of wearing a suit and tie, but maybe the tie would be too much. What do you think?

That sounds good, maybe lose the jacket though. You maybe able to get away w/ just dress pants, a trendy button down and tie. It's a formal, yet casual event. Wear what you might wear to a afternoon outdoor wedding. The playboy mansion is trendy, even if this is a formal event.
Have Fun, I'm jealous. I've always wanted to visit the Playboy Mansion.

If s/he doesn't know, s/he will connect you to someone who does.

Wear the tie. if it seems like a little much, then take it off. Then, if clothes seem like a little much, take them off as well.
