A nice plaque of Jesus Giving a Boy his First Communion,
rosary, Holy Bible, a book of saints.
Or a gift of $50-100.
NOte: Most beautiful thing is instructing him in the faith during his life--beautiful and priceless.

Be realistic. Things like a rosary, cross, etc will most likely end up in a drawer. Give the kid something he will actually use and enjoy, like a gift card to hos favorite game store. I am going to a communion, and most other people I spoke to are giving cash in a card.

easiest thing to do is go to a religious gift shop. the people are very helpful. items i would give are a rosary, bible, prayer book, saints medals or a cross to wear or one for the wall in their room. if you're uncomfortable with any of these b/c you aren't catholic, savings bonds are always a good idea too.

I know what you mean. I'm kinda stumped too myself. Maybe as long as it's relgious it shouldn't matter. I think I got a necklace when I had my first communion.
Maybe a cool frame would work? How about a book about your first communion and god? they usually are in the church bookstore.
How about just a small t-shirt/gift card?
