I agree with everyone else - candy or something homemade is perfectly appropriate, as would small gift certificate to a coffe place, etc. Be sure to include a card of thanks as well!
One thing to mention though - I don't believe that mail carriers can accept any type of tip (i.e. cash), so with regards to one answer you received, I just wanted you to be aware. If he were to get caught, it could spell real trouble for him!
You're an incredibly sweet person for wanting to do this. Cheers!

I had a great mail carrier once. I one time gave him a gift of candy. I didn't really know if he ate candy but I figured everyone would appreciate it and he did. The second time I gave him a gift, it was a stuffed animal dressed up as a mail carrier. He really seemed to appreciate that one.
I would stick to something like candy because it can convey your appreciation without being too personal. There are a lot of very nice tins that contain candy that are perfect for gift giving.

Be careful, the postal carrier is not supposed to accept gifts, if he gets caught, he could get into trouble. Call the postmaster at your local post office, and see what he may recieve.
A nice thing to do is send a letter to the post office, to the postmaster, and tell him what a great guy your carrier is. That might mean more than any gift you can give.

Hmm...this is a tricky one. You could always give him a card with a gift of money in it. He would definately appreciate that. But if you were looking for something more personal, how about something he could use on the job. A monogramed pen, maybe, if he uses a regular pen for signing for packages. Or a small battery powered fan to put in his truck. Hope this helps!

Sweet and small sounds like maybe a small loaf of homemade apple bread, or cookies, and a coupon for Starbucks, or a coffee mug loaded with biscotti; a little handwritten note of appreciation is what will make it special. I wish everyone would do this for the helpful people in our lives!
best wishes,

A card with a gift certificate for a restaurant would be nice. I'm sure he'd really appreciate it. It's alway nice to be told you are doing a great job or are a nice person. You are such a nice person :)

You could give him a card of appreciation. They have cards specifically for mail carriers. You could buy him a little box of candies also. But a thank you card would be totally sweet!!

How about a good book or a (music) CD or a great movie on DVD? And don't forget to put in a note expressing your appreciation. :)

He may think you're trying to make a play for him. If it's not Christmas, or whatever holiday he celebrates, I wouldn't give him anything.
