Saying "Bless you or God bless you" to someone that has sneezed is simply a society thing but more habit. Depending on how you were raised yes perhaps you were taught that saying bless you after someone sneezed was proper. But just because I see or hear someone sneeze does not mean I HAVE to say bless you. Just like when I see someone walking by I could say Hello, I don't have to. Sure maybe its more polite to say bless you or its polite to hold the door for someone. But there are nothing that says I have to be polite.

That only happens when I'm not with friends or family. But I don't take it personally because some people just aren't comfortable speaking to strangers. Also, if I were blessing someone who sneezed and I didn't know them, I would simply say "Bless you"
Another thought...Maybe you forget to cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze. If that's the case, your lack of concern for spreading germs does not warrant a "Bless You."

We have a girl here at work that every day like clock work she sneezes at 2:30pm on the dot. Everyone always says God Bless You. I find it kind of annoying actually and it disrupts work, especially when a lot of our work is done by phones. Now if it was at home or another place that is a different story. Did you know that the story behind it is in pagan times, they believed the devil would come and take your soul when you sneezed, and that is why they said God Bless You whenever you sneeze? And that is why we say it today. =)

Sorry, but I'm giggling in amazement. To hear that people actually get upset about this tradition is amazing. I'm from South Africa and we do sneeze here, but we don't say "God bless you" always. I didn't realize it is such a serious thing.
But here goes: "God bless you!"

I don't think so. Maybe the others are busy. Or maybe they're wondering why you would spray germs around the room at hundreds of miles per hour like that.

It doesn't tick me off when people don't say it to me, but I have come to expect it, because I say it to others. You call it rude when they don't say it to you but I look at it, as they don't care or aren't into saying it & we aren't going to change them.

it doesn't matter if people don't say "god bless you" as long as you say "excuse me"...your own mannerism is more important than how people treat you...not all people on this earth know how to treat others well, neither do they know how to respond with encouragement and kind words...don't expect too much from people but constantly working on everything good in yourself...
