She did such a good job helping me find my first house. If so, what's a good present?

She got 1%-2% of the sale. If you like, give her some flowers.

If she went above and beyond the call of duty, I think it's fine to give her a little something. (Some agents get that commission, but really aren't that helpful. Ask me how I know!) How about a small plant for her desk and a card? Or, a lovely mug for her coffee/tea? Or maybe a gift card to a local coffee shop or nice bakery? It's the thought that counts, so since she is in fact getting a nice commission, keep the gift simple. I'd say $10 is good.

Edit: And the previous answerers are correct...the mention of a referral is golden!

It's absolutely not necessary to give your realtor a gift - trust me, they make a nice commmission from the sale.

However, I'm a lot like you -- our realtor was absolutely, positivley so super-fantastic with us in finding exactly the right house for us. She showed us almost 100 houses (literally, and this does NOT count the open houses we went to on our own), and she sent us new listings daily until we found what we wanted.

On top of that, on the day we moved in, she was at our house with a crock pot full of BBQ beef, buns, chips, beer, soda, ice, cups, plates & napkins - because she thought we might be hungry. She totally went over and above what we could have EVER expected from anyone!

Since we really got to know her well through our house hunt, and our endless showings took her away from her husband and young son, we got her a gift certificate to a nice restaurant so they could go out and spend some together!

Well, she probably received 3% to 3.5% of the sale. Sounds like she earned her money...as you seem happy with the process and your new home. While a present is not expected, a simple thank you card and flowers would be a nice gesture. The best present would be to refer a friend. Congratulations on your new home.

The best present you can give your realtor is to refer business her way when someone asks you for a recommendation. Offer to take a small stack of her business cards for just that purpose. You could also tell her that if she uses testimonials for her marketing materials that you would be glad to write one for her.

Excellent Idea! but it depends on your budget. I've seen people give their real estate agents cars before. But for you a free meal at a nice restaurant or a bottle of merlot may suffice.

sugar, she made a nice commission off that sale, so why do you want to buy her a present on top of that? ... what about something like a nice letter, saying how helpful she was?

She did get a present, her commission for selling you a house.

A nice thank you card and offering yourself as a referal should be plenty.

Considering that she got a fee for performing that service, a thank you card should be sufficient.
