At least once a week, I end up having someone let an elevator door shut in my face. People used to at least act like they were trying to find the "open door" button, but now they just stand there and watch you as you wave and say "thanks anyway, I'll catch the next one".

You must not live in the South.

Down here, we will go out of our way to accommodate a lady.

It must be that dangerous Republican upbringing.

It is very wrong. This makes me especially angry because the elevator in the building where I work has a reflective surface, so if you're on the elevator you can actually see someone walking up to it in the reflection of the side of the door. In this case, there's NO reason to let it slam in someone's face. The part that truly angers me is that I usually have a chance to make eye contact with the person on the elevator before the door closes, and they *always* have a very smug look on their faces. UGH!

Texans ARE a different breed. (I discovered that when we lived there last summer.) It's never happened to me. Maybe you should move over here a little more east. These southern boys would go CRAZY trying to keep the elevator open for you!

BTW, you probably cause a YA system clog when you put the new pic up! Cute!

PS WHY do people feel they must call people names on here??? You can disagree and get your point across without insulting another person. I would hate to be married to some of these people. I can only imagne what they say to their loved ones.

Is it wrong? Yes. It's rude. But I must admit to being guilty of this at least once . I am not a morning person and sometimes the thought of letting one more person into the elevator is just too much. I've also has it done to me as well ( and rightfully so). It's wrong, it really is, but just in case you're wondering " why in the world.?"...

Its just plain rudeness and it comes from poor upbringing. Its happening more and more today. The best way to fight it is to comment about it and embarrass them if you can. Many will not embarrass easily unfortunately as they have no class. I used to kick the outer door after it closed like you ran into it, usually makes them feel bad.

It is wrong and it is rude. However I try not to let others rudeness have an effect on me and how I treat others. If these people have grown up without manners then I will not make it my job to teach them.

Yeah, that happens. I don't know....guess they think you'd understand and that it's too late to do something, or perhaps they are simply a bit slow in their reactions becoz they are pre-occupied with other thoughts.

It'd be nice for everyone to be quick and thoughtful...but it's so not an ideal world.

Too many people fail to recognize that good manners are small, inconsequential sacrifices that make life a little easier to bear for everyone.People are just too selfish today.
