I am hiring a roofing company. If the workers do a good job, would I give them a tip when they finish their work?

No, they get a nice salary for their job well done, unlike a waitress making min. wage + tips.

I tip bartenders, waiters and waitresses at least 20% of the check. Roofers are a different story. They hire on not expecting to be tipped because usually their paychecks are pretty high. But, if your as much as a sucker as I am I would let them split a 100 dollars bill as a gratuity for doing a good job. You should know what a good job is in putting on a new roof, though. Climb up right in front of them and inspect the shingles to make sure they are straight, tacked down properly and most of all have the forman run a water leakage test before the job is complete. Do all of this first because after they are gone, they're gone and it is very difficult to get them back if not impossible. Make sure you get a warranty in writing. Make sure you get at least a square of extra shingles for future accidents. By no means do you want to buy a bunch of roofers beer. That's like pouring gasoline on a fire , these are not refined people. Good Luck.........Flynn

I don't know about where you live, but where I live, roofers get paid very good hourly wages.

Given that, a monetary tip is probably unnecessary.

However, making hot or cold beverages (depending on the weather), including the odd beer or two, and/or food available are great tangible ways of expressing your appreciation for a job well done.

Paying the roofers verbal compliments is also good.

I suppose that, if where you live roofers are not adequately compensated, a monetary tip might be appropriate.

No. The closest thing that you should do as far as a tip is to offer some cold water while they are working if they look like they are working diligently. They get paid to do work of a certain quality. That's why in law, you can sue someone for breach of implied warranty of quality. You are already paying them to do a good job, and in your bill includes their labor as a service. Otherwise the bill would just be for the materials.

I never have, they usually do not stick around, they pack up and go.
A nice thing to do is to buy them lunch, or go out at lunch time, and hand them all $5, or $10. I wouldn't say anything in advance, you might end up with 40 roofers looking for free lunch.
I had some movers once, and I provided soda to drink a couple times, and bought them Mcdonald's cause that is what they wanted, plus a $10 tip. they said thanks, so I guess it was enough

Maybe a gift card to a restaurant or buy them lunch, food is always a good bet.

I would probably just buy em all a beer, maybe toss in a couple of pizzas.

I wouldn't think it would be necessary to tip them.
