I always send my great aunt and great uncle, in their 90's, flowers for every holiday (I live 2 states away from them). I'd love to send them something besides flowers but I'm not sure what is appropriate.

I've never been to a holiday office party before. What is appropriate atire? Jeans and a nice sweater? I work at a sports facility and this party is being held at an upscale Inn.

Also, what do I do with myself while there? I mean, I know to go around and say "hi" to everyone and wish them happy holidays but what about after that? I'm not all that close to anyone that will be attending (mostly upper management). I don't want to be standing in the corner by myself. Heck, I don't want to go to begin with but already told them I would. It would look really bad if I backed out now, huh? I backed out last year but I doubt anyone noticed.

Please help!

Alright, heres my dilemma. I am getting gifts for a select friends who I work with. I already know what I am getting them, and the gifts are in the 15-30 dollar range, so nothing big. How do you give them the gift though, if they don't know you go them something? Do you give it to them early incase they want to return the favor? Do you tell them ahead of time that you are giving them something? If so, do you set a price range? These people are friends, but some aren't the closest friends, but we do hang out and work together. What would be a good way to go about giving these out too? Should I pull them aside at work, after work, before work? Should I go to their houses and give it to them? Should I wait till we hang out again? Need some advice.

We hire a caregiver for my mom who is on hospice. She works 33 hours a week for us. We choose to pay her more than the going rate, because she is so outstanding. I read somewhere that the appropriate Christmas gift for a maid or a nanny (not quite our situation but close)....would be a week's salary. That would be very steep for us and we honestly couldn't afford it. Are there other guidelines or suggestions that would be appropriate? Would it be in taste to give her the equivalent of the above in paid vacation? Maybe a smaller cash amount on top of a few days off with pay?

Whenever I walk down the halls, I can't help but stare at the people walking pass me. It's not that all of them are attractive, they're just interesting. I kinda sound like a psycho right now! What can I do to stop this habit?

If people are rude, domineering, generally mean, how is that they can get away with it all the time, even if it is brought to their attention, that they are being bad?

We are planning a 75th B-day party for our Father. My sisters would like to give our Father a cross Canada Rail trip for two. Is it polite to ask on the invitation if the invited guest would like to donate for this trip. We are planning on renting a social hall and having this party catered.

Ok, so I was looking around on here for cell phone related questions and I realized that we are living in a over consuming society. I'm 14 and used to want a cell phone and badly. But I soon realized that it was almost no use at my age. All these questions that are on here that say "I want a cell phone!!!!" are just pathetic little immature teenagers who have nothing better to do. I mean some people need it (for actual reasons, parents divorced always away from home ect.) but if you REALLY need it then your parents would tell you that you do and would already have got you one.

I'm sure I'm not the only one with this opinion. Am I?

A large portion of my workmates blank me when I walk past them and smile. How should I handle this? Should I keep smiling back? Or blank them back? I've tried saying 'hello' and I get no response either, and they talk loudly about after work drinks without inviting me. How should I handle it? I'm 30!

Apparently I offended, although it wasn't intended. It was meant as a joke as I thought his question was. Ooops, some are overly sensitive, I guess. If he's on here now I wish to apogize as I certainly didn't mean to offend.

Let's say you are waiting for a customer to pull out of the parking lot, and Jo schmoe pulls up and honks at you, and then proceeds to take the space you so long waited for? Do you argue, give the finger, key the car? Just go away in peace?

I have always wondered this and have actually gotten into with several folks about this one. I've always known that the correct way to put the toilet paper on the holder is with the paper coming over the roll, as opposed to pulling it down from behind it (the roll). Does anyone have any opinions on this that they'd be willing to share? Thanks.

My office has been bombarded with fruit baskets, chocolates, fruitcakes, cookies, you name it from our vendors this Christmas. Everyone is about burnt out on sweets. Anyway, today we received a really nice meat and cheese basket. This girl ran up and grabbed it stating"I'm on Atkins-you all can have the rest but this is mine!" and took it to her car. A few months ago it was her birthday and we all pitched in and got her a cake. When we gave it to her she said "this is too beautiful to cut, I'm taking it home to show my husband". How rude is she?

Why become those people that hurt you so? Basically, what I'm trying to ask is if your with the people that likes to hurt others, why complian that the world is unfair since you too make it that way?

You know what's acceptable, and what will make you work extra hard when that person comes in again.

Is that different for a table of white men in suits from a table of, well let's just say, the opposite.

To sum up my question, how do you figure out EXPECTATIONS, ACCEPTABILITY, and FUTURE SERVICE with regard to ethnic differences?
