Ok, so I was looking around on here for cell phone related questions and I realized that we are living in a over consuming society. I'm 14 and used to want a cell phone and badly. But I soon realized that it was almost no use at my age. All these questions that are on here that say "I want a cell phone!!!!" are just pathetic little immature teenagers who have nothing better to do. I mean some people need it (for actual reasons, parents divorced always away from home ect.) but if you REALLY need it then your parents would tell you that you do and would already have got you one.

I'm sure I'm not the only one with this opinion. Am I?

I'm 20 and i barely even use my phone. I have it for emergencies. If i need to talk to someone i'll use the house phone or get on the internet to see if i can catch that person on a messenger.

The pathetic immature teenagers just want a cell phone to look cool and think that having a cellphone at 12-13 years old(or younger) will make them popular. i've seem kids younger than 12 having cell phones these days. Now you see Disney making them for younger kids

Younger kids, and younger teenagers should only have them if they absolutly need them...like you said for actual reason, parents divorced..ect. My best friend's little brother(he's maybe 9) has one because he lives with his dad and he can call his mom any time he wants on his cell phone.

I've had a cell phone since 16 because you can't take a risk of getting stuck and not having someone know where to find you (from Alaska). When I moved to Texas, there really weren't any instances where I'd freeze to death if my car broke down so I didn't have one. Now that I commute over an hour everyday I have one again because anything could go wrong in that hour.

...Hmm. I think that teens (including me) only want a cell phone as a way to socially connect. Trading numbers, staying up late to talk, text messaging...we tell our parents that we can use it for emergencies when we really just abuse the priviledge of having a cell phone. You are not the only one with that opinion. Kids/Teens/Tweens are becoming more demanding and less grateful.

I didn't get one til I was 38 and footing the bill. Unless the kid is disabled, special needs, or something yes, by all means have a cell, but otherwise, why?

I think you are absolutely right that sometimes we don't really need things we think we need, and a cell phone is one of them for many people. Good job.
