Etiquette - December 2006

every time I go to any store, I see people parked in an isle, holding up traffic, waiting for someone to walk to their car, put up their stuff, get situated, back out, and drive off.

it royally pisses me off. walking an extra ten spaces is not hard, and the act of being a parking vulture shows how lazy most americans have become.

what would be proper etiquette for waiting for a parking space? my rule of thumb is 10 seconds. if you are in front of me and you are waiting for a parking spot for more than ten seconds, I am very tempted to floor my car and rear end you at max speed because of nothing more than laziness.

it is these same people who are incapable of putting up their shopping carts at the grocery store. if some fat lady in a mumu can walk through wal-mart picking out her ding-dongs, ho-hos, red meat and "sugar-free" candy, then she can walk the extra minute from a further space and she can put up her cart.

what do you think? does this not drive anyone else nuts?

For the last few years we have gone to my in-laws house Christmas afternoon to visit and exchange a few gifts and eat and visit. This year I shopped as usual, a few well thought out gifts that I know these people would like and appreciate, and have everything wrapped any ready to go. This morning when I call to confirm what time we need to be there and if there is anything they needed picked up from the grocery store I was told "We are only having the kids open presents, the adults aren't getting anything this year."
I told my father-in-law that I had already paid for the gifts, wrapped them and had no way to return them. No big deal if they didn't get anything for my husband and I we got them things we knew they would like...and he got pissed off at me for saying that.
My problem is not so much the getting pissed off part it is the fact that he has done this to me before. Waited until a few days before Christmas to tell me that they weren't going to get us anything.

Every time I see her – she just rambles on and on and on about herself and there is no exchange or comradery with her. She seems to like to collect people, she stays in touch with every person she has worked with over her long career.
I am so tired of being a good listener. Although I have wanted to tell her the truth, I don’t want to say anything too negative; because I know her from work and she might cause me problems. I just got another e-mail from her asking to meet me again and I just don't-don't-don't want to go. If I say I'm busy that day she will move it to the next week and it will never end! I am open to suggestions! Please help!

Do you think that it's alright for men to pee outside but it's really unladylike and wrong for women to do that? Why or why not?

one of the managers at work doesnt like me at all,and it seems like he is trying to replace me with someone he likes, but the decision is not up to him,so he finds mistakes that i make and he sends emails to the bosses and supervisors,he doesnt say my name in the emails, but he knows that i read them since i am supposed to read my co workers emails to get important info to do my job,and he gives many hints that the person is me,like the person who worked in that position that day made this mistake, and etc...i was being trained at a new position but the person who was supposed to be training me wasnt there,so i was just waiting and doing nothing,so he came in my office and saw me,he was looking for something and couldnt find it but didnt bother to ask me if i knew where it was,i was on the comp reading emails,so a few hours later i got this email from him to all management about unproductive wasteful people who should be fired,it wasnt my fault that there was nobody there, should i quit?

I do not celebrate christmas...for many reasons. I personally boycott the cumpulsory spending spree our culture goes into even moreso this time of year. But I cannot control other's spending which leaves me in a bind. I do not shop but occasionally I get gifts, most which is just "stuff" I don't want. I do consider the time and effort involved and do not turn down anything anyone made ie cooked or handcrafted. I already have a houseful of things and do not need more. I warn everyone I know that I do not wish gifts for xmas but a few still seep through. How do I gracefully refuse them? Should I just donate the items or do I stand my ground and flat out refuse to accept it?

feel bad at Christmas when you give a gift that less expensive then what you receive? or do you just know that its the thought that counted?

Like ... if you give gifts to kids and maybe they will start liking you just because you always buy things for them. Or you buy things for your aunts / relatives / mom ... and they might not really appreciate it ... or maybe the gift is not that expensive e.g. the necklace is not really sterling silver and might make you itch .. but I guess jewellery will make people happy anytime ...

All I wanted to know is the facts about STEELERS getting into the playoffs and the world is filled with jerks that cant resist hurting someone else with their comments. Everytime I post a good question on this site, there is always people who like to make you feel stupid and bring you down to their level. Where did any holiday spirit go or just basic human decency? I hope you have no problem living with yourselves and do you really feel good about who you are inside? I still wish everyone a great holiday!!!

More specifically, Jew. My friends insist on calling one of our friends 'Jew', like Cart Man calls Kyle in South Park.

And I objected to that. I don't think it's right... I believe it actually hurts at a sub-conscience level.

Am I being too up-tight and fun spoiler? Should I just relax about this stuff and have fun with this stuff?
