Yes! They drive me crazy! I hate them!!!
Christmas is the only time of year when you hear the same songs over and over and over and over every single year. (Well then again, the radio stations where I live also like to play Micheal Jackson's "Thriller" about 5 times a day around Halloween--sooo clever of them!)
They don't bring out peace in me. They conjure up visions of spending frenzy, panic of finding "the perfect gift", which is why I think the people in marketing start playing them in stores November 1st. A subliminal message of Christmas is coming! Spend your money now!!!!
What an excellent idea! I'm sure your guests will be grateful--especially if they work in retail!

MUSIC IS ENTERTAINMENT FOR YOUR EMOTIONS...
Depends on how in to the Christmas spirit you are.
There are good cd's with the artist's (well some) that you mentioned.
It will drive you nuts if that's what you are not in the mood for.
BUT there are only so many Christmas songs and I have reached overkill, even if I am in the mood (but that can happen with regular music as well).
If opening up presents to "Do you think I'm sexy", "Get it on", or "Everybody wants some" puts you in a good mood sounds like a you'll definetly be in the Christmas spirit (giving & recieving)! LOL ~I'll burn for sure on that one! LOL ~Happy Holidays~

As crimbo is now on the eve, yes I love the songs and can cope with them for a few days after, then enough, however new year songs as in Old Lang ......drive me crazy, so hypocritical which is a great pity, as we should carry the meaning through each and every day until the next year and so on, however, not to be alas!

I actually like Wham's Last Christmas, it does make me feel 'christmassy', but as for the rest of them, I can take or leave them.
Like you said I'd rather listen to other stuff!
Christmas in my house is usally a mixture of radiohead, the clash, killers, rem, strokes and echo & the bunneymen and even joy division, basically the same as any other time of year!

i love to hear christmas songs on the radio after a year of mindless commercial top-40 crap, but there aren't nearly enough holiday songs in the rotation to leave anyone's sanity intact. you end up hearing the same songs loop every 30-45 minutes. playing christmas music on the radio is fun, but the stations really need to rethink their tactics! where i live, christmas songs started playing november 1st!! that's 2 months of the same 20 songs over and over!!!

Both,
Driving Home for Christmas is always a winner with me for making it feel like christmas.
Mistletoe & Wine send me running to the nearest toilet to throw up and makes me want to cancel christmas for all eternity.
Some Christmas songs have that special something and some are just made to get on your nerves, get on your nerves, get on your nerves.
