Tacky and classless regardless of the gender. Seems to be more acceptable for a man because of the manner in which they are able to relieve themselves (quick and unassuming) unlike the female.

It is never O.K> at any time either by men or women. Yes, in an emergency and no toilets are close by, then find a suitable hiding place out of the public view. But to answer your question, yes it is poor etiquette.

Nobody should be relieving themselves in public if at all possible- period. It is disgusting, for starters. Secondly, it makes the offender appear highly uncouth. I knew a guy who would not use a public men's room and would sneak off to do his business in unapproved areas(like around the back of a building). He embarrassed me and all of my pals to the point that we no longer include him in our group. If it's an emergency and there's no restroom around, that is one thing. But to "go" outside when there IS a bathroom within reasonable distance is totally unacceptable.

As a guy, I realize that it is easier, I find a high bush, whip it out, do what i have to do, and put it back. A woman has to find the same tall bush, remove all impeding clothing, back into the bush, squat, do what she has to do, and get redressed. Obviously this takes longer, but if necessary, it should be done. If caught in the act, just finish and leave.

It's disgusting for anybody to do it. I can see if it's an emergency and you don't want to pee your pants but if you're grown, you should know when you have to use the bathroom and make sure you make it to a restroom in ample time not to have to resort to public urination.

I think that both men and women should use restrooms to pee. (no one should go outside) However, it is easier for men to do it anywhere. Women would have a much harder time being discreet about it.

My opinion is that if you're on a long road trip, and you're far from any rest stops, that it's ok for a guy to walk off the road a bit, find a discreet place, and pee.
As a female, I cannot do that!

Yes, women should always hold in their pee longer than men. This why later in life you sing "My girl wants to potty all the time, potty all the tiiiimmmee".
