When my girls were about 2,3,4, a Norwegian friend, visitng South Africa, bought them a rabbit , that was dyed blue. The girls asked what his name was, and he said "Vanka". The Norwegians could not pronounce "W".
Well Vanka became a good family pet, and used to go and sleep, curled up in one of the cooking pots. Or he would come and lie over my shoulder and have a snooze. He was very tame.
Sometimes friends would come to visit, and I used to get such a kick out of this. They would have a drink or two, and then Vanka would go hopping by, and I and the girls would just pretend we had not seen him. But my friends would get this very strange look on their faces, look at their drink, or snacks, look up again, say nothing. Eventually someone would say, "i keep seeing a blue rabbit hop past, am I going mad, or what?" Then we would tell them, and introduce them to Vanka.
