Oddly enough, you don't have to get very old before realizing that there are many people who resent you, as an old person, taking up space on the planet. If you have a part-time job, it is begrudged you because it should be given to someone with a family to support. I've heard the impatience of people in stores because an old person is in the way and is suspected of being senile: Old and senile, same thing. Some see that your social security is the same as welfare - paid out of their tax dollars. I've heard it on talk shows. They don't consider that it may have taken you 50+ years as a wage earner, contributing to your account in order to collect at age 65.. AARP magazine focuses on seniors who drive a succession of new cars, have second homes somewhere in the world, travel a lot and live better than most of us ever hoped to live at any time in our lives. That's the way it is. The working poor are the forgotten people in every generation. We earned every day of it.

Sadly, yes people do not see older ones as they should. I believe society now has forgotten to instill respect and the like towards those that have worked so hard to get where they are and give what they have. The wisdom the a person that is more in years can pass down to people like myself is unsurpassed.

The money that you have put into the social security all those years sadly doesn't even come close to the cost of living as you age. The medical changes as well as the normal ever climbing expenses of having a roof over your head, food on your table and transportation isn't taken in consideration by the government. Those that believe that an older person is taking away jobs from others that supposedly need it more are being selfish and blind. Who are they to say who needs the job and who doesn't for starters. No matter what the age is the object is to survive and money is needed to do so.

The working poor are not forgotten by all and neither are the older ones.

I believe that society needs to change it's view and stop seeing green and begin to see reality.

Have a Good day.

I totally agree with you. Growing old is lonely whatever status in life one gets to be, rich or poor. Younger people fail to see that they too will grow old and feel the same way

I so agree with you. What a shame. I see you have been a member for a long time but seldom get on here. Now you need to pull your chair up to that computer and join us more often. We would enjoy having you dear.
