I understand he refused to appear on a show with someone he has little or no respect for... and I have to admire his guts to take a stance! Richard Belzer was prepared to walk off the Daily show the night before when it was jokingly announced that Ann Coulter would be a guest also...Belzer stood up and said, "I will not be on a show with that woman." Have to admire the stance there too.

I'm so old, that I remember not even knowing what a performer's politics were. Oh, there's no withch-hunt here! God help you if you're conservative in these United States.
If Mr. Barry Manilow wants to stand up for his principles-fine, but I think the producers were right not to give in to him. He knew Hasselback was on the show, next time, he should tell his agent not to book him on the show in the first place.
Does anybody remember that Hasselback has a right to her principles, too?

I couldn't care less that Barry is "in trouble", but I give him a lot of respect for sticking up for his principles. At his age, he doesn't need to be pushed around (Like most of us, right? ;-).
Mr. Manilow asked that he be interviewed by Joy, Barbara or Whoopi, but not Ms. Hasselbeck. Apparently the show's producers refused, so he backed out.
Barry is also friends with Rosie O'D, who doesn't get along with Hasselbeck either, so that may have been a factor.
Either way, I give props to Barry. Back in the day, we used to call him "Barely Manenough" because we felt his music was of the wimpier variety. I would like to withdraw that, based on his recent actions. Way to go, Barry!
I hope you buy his CD too, not necessarily because of his stance, but because we need to support real people making real music.
On a side note, I would love to see Belz go up against Ann Coulter. It would be no contest...
peace

Never have like Barry, and find that this is just another publicity stunt, Seems everybody always has to have a little DRAMA just when they have a new CD or movie or something coming out. It's getting boring. Yawn!!!

I do not watch that show, anyway. All the liberals against one Conservative. Elizabeth and her Seattle Seahawk brother have taken some ridiculous flak this month. I wonder if it is a coincidence. I like Manilow's singing but I agree that this could be a ruse to get his albums sold.

I have always enjoyed his music. I'm not familiar with Ann Coulter (blame Canada) so I googled her name . You have to admire Barry Manilow for taking a stand on his beliefs. Her comment on "how to solve the Muslim problem " is genocide any way you look at it!

I like good ole' Barry...and I have no idea what trouble he is in. I was sort of shocked to see him recently....did he go to the same plastic surgeon that "did" Kenny Rogers or what? The skin on his face was so tight it looked glossy...it really was kinda scary....but...I still "can't smile without him....can't laugh without him...I'm just finding it hard to... look at him, lol (sort of)

I'm with Goldwing on this one. Gotta admire Barry for not participating in something with someone you don't respect.
