No one in our family hid presents til Christmas Day. Nor did
any of our extended family or friends. If they weren't wrapped yet, they hid under our bed, or in our bedroom closet on the top shelf. So I'd try to get them wrapped and under the tree as
soon as we got the tree, and before they could be discovered. We opened our gifts at Christmas Eve at my
parents. And then Santa would come Christmas Day morning to our house. Many a Christmas Eve, my hubby would be assembling something til the wee hours. And so exasperated when he had more nuts and bolts after assembling, then he knew what to do with LOL.

We used to hide them at the in laws house and bring them over Christmas Eve after the kids went to bed. We also had an old tool chest in the basement that was covered in cobwebs that we used. The trick was to make it look like the cobwebs and spiders were threatening and scary. The kids hated the basement because of all the spiders.

I hid the presents right in front of them. My kids (5) loved to sneak a peek at their presents for christmas. So what I did was buy christmas paper that was geared for each child. In other words, the same wrapping paper was used for all the gifts of child #1, but the child's name was not placed on the wrapping. A sample of the paper with the child's name was hidden until christmas. The same with child # 2. That child also had her own paper assigned to her that she didn't know either. All that childs gifts were wrapped with the same paper design or pattern and all the way on down the line for all the kids. And sample paper of each childs wrapping with name was secretly kept.
Talk about being upset. They were upset they couldn't peek because they had no way of knowing who's gift it was that they were looking at. That permently cured all the sneak peeks for all christmans. Boy, did my wife and I have fun with that.

We never hid the gifts for the Yuletide celebration. It was never an issue when I was growing up nor an issue when my kids were little.
The gifts were always something that was handmade. We treasured it more, because it was a gift from the heart. I passed this tradition along to my husband and then to the kids. We never had to hide gifts from them.
My kids always had toys like no one else, they were crafted with love, you cannot put a price on that.

They were peekers and good at it. I put bogus names on the presents and told them any one that had been peeked in would go to some other kid and not stay home. I used to package chocolate chips in butcher paper and label liver and freeze so I would have them for cookies. One year the Bon Marche had a special on canning presents and I had them canned. They could smell a present from miles away.

In an unused suitcase with a lock, under the bed in the
guest room, in a bathroom vanity, and in the guestroom
closet. They tried to peek, but I don't remember if they
ever found out what they were getting.

I just put them in my closet behind my dresses - so not very creative at all. But my mom used to put them in our dresser drawers until we were teens then she put them in the trunk the artificial tree came in. She figured we'd never look in either place, and we didn't. My sister hunted like a mad woman and never found a single one. I'm lucky, my boys don't even try to look.

My answer to this, for snoopy kids, was to wrap them immediately, and put a small initial at the back, where you tape the present.
That way, that way they did not dare open them. Then into the top of my cupboard.
Not very inventive.
