When my girls were about 2,3,4, a Norwegian friend, visitng South Africa, bought them a rabbit , that was dyed blue. The girls asked what his name was, and he said "Vanka". The Norwegians could not pronounce "W".

Well Vanka became a good family pet, and used to go and sleep, curled up in one of the cooking pots. Or he would come and lie over my shoulder and have a snooze. He was very tame.

Sometimes friends would come to visit, and I used to get such a kick out of this. They would have a drink or two, and then Vanka would go hopping by, and I and the girls would just pretend we had not seen him. But my friends would get this very strange look on their faces, look at their drink, or snacks, look up again, say nothing. Eventually someone would say, "i keep seeing a blue rabbit hop past, am I going mad, or what?" Then we would tell them, and introduce them to Vanka.

ROFLOL, I would have loved to see the look on those folks faces when they kept seeing a blue rabbit hopping about! lol

Did I ever!! My Dad raised the silly critters! At first, I just loved them. That was before I met their claws! He would have me out there to help feed the animals and I would be okay with the small ones but, the big ones knew I feared them. They had too as they certainly had me trained! lol

I did have a pet rabbit once. I let it stroll around the house and it left little rabbit reminders everywhere. It chewed throught the pillows and the sofa, and I'm surprised it didn't get electrocuted, it also loved the wires to the lamps. It liked to hide under the refrigerator, when I came home, I would get down and bang my hand against the floor, and it would come out. It was cute and soft, but too messy. I named it "Pipkin" from the book "Watership Down" which was popular at the time.

Yes we did, his name was Buttons. He was a dwarf rabbit. We got him when he was a baby. He was house broken and for the most part would eat people food. Some how or another he would know if someone was coming to the house and would hop to the door before any one would even knock on the door. Another thing that he would do is when you was holding him and he was on his back, he would hold his front paws together like he was praying. He passed away of old age.

When I was little we had hundreds of rabbits, they were butchered and sold for meat and fur. I used to play with the little bunnies but knew they would grow up and go away. I had bunnies for my kids and they had great fun with them. When they got old and fat I would give them to someone and get the kids some new bunnies. Used to freeze big jugs of water to keep them cook in the summers. I had an aunt that had one in the house called Raisin, she would slide down a little ramp to use a cat box in the garage and hop back up into the house. What a cutie she was and black and white.

Yes, we bought two for our daughter to raise for 4H club. And
after about a year, the hutch was open and the hutch was
empty. We never found one of them, but the other got hung
up in the garage door and got it's neck broken when we
didn't see it pulling the car in. What a sad time for me. No one
knew about the rabbit til I heard it making a noise in the
garage. I called a neighbor who was a hunter and he came
over with a handgun and silencer and put it out of its' misery.
I think they had our pet rabbit for dinner that night. They were
from Alabama and liked fresh meat like rabbit.

My brother had one when we were little, Mr. Wiggles kept eating the phone wire. The rabbit & the cat played all the time and my Mom's little dog just tried to ignore them as much as possible. We also had a huge fish tank, that kept losing fish. And the cat & the rabbit always looked very suspicious & well fed.

I currently have two, Buns a mini-lop, and Tauntaun a holland lop. I love my girls. Buns used to run around the house before we got a dog, and she would hop up on the couch with me and sit. I used to feed her pretzels. When i was in high school we had a black market rabbit as a pet named Mr.Buns and he ran free though the house til he chewed up the phone cord. I think he died of a stroke. I used to have a dwarf named Ozzy, but I gave him away because he was a butthole to me and I didn't have time to handle him.
