Christmas is hardly about Jesus.. The truth is complicated, "Christmas." "Christmas" as "Christ's Mass," the celebration of Christ's birthday, originated when the Roman Catholic Church decided to consecrate pagan traditions. The Church wanted to convert the pagans of Europe to Christianity, and as a way of doing so, they established a Christian religious meaning to the important and popular celebration of the winter solstice. They chose the birth of Christ because it echoed pagan attributes of the holiday, which celebrated, amongst other things, the rebirth of the Sun. ["rebirth of Sun"/"birth of Son," get it?]. The truth is that, before then, Christians didn't really celebrate Christ's birth; it was his death and resurrection that were supremely important, and his birth was a minor point without a fixed celebration. Jesus if he did exist which there is no evidence he did, but he may have. It's certain though that Jesus ''wasn't'' born on December 25. In fact, the details in the Bible clearly point to his being born in the spring. Placing the holiday of December 25 was a direct attempt to co-opt solstice traditions

First of all there was NO VOWELS in the original language. Second the word GOD is NOWHERE IN THE BIBLE. Now the words Elohim, and other forms of EL,Jehovah, Yehveh, Adonia, I AM, LORD, and Jesus Christ is in the Bible. Last of all the Jews said Yehweh but it was always spelt YHVH. The context of the writings and oral tradition dictated the vowel sounds. Any body that understands the ancient Hebrew language will agree with me. What do you think?

I am not Christian, but this one guy I debated with told me of his past experiences that made him transform into a fundy. He mentioned that "God revealed himself to him." This must be a common phenomenon because I have heard other people tell me that too. Maybe I should convert to being Christian, then God will reveal himself to me. I wonder, is he going to talk to me in my dreams? hmmm....maybe he will make me fly?

I wonder what all these fundies are experiencing.

hmmmmmmmmmmm...So, how did God reveal himself to YOU?

She's more of a country girl, loves horses and pigs, pretty dry sense of humor and very sarcastic. Remember that I'm not exactly made of money.

I want to give her a good gift though. Last year (before I really got to know her) I gave her 2 dead batteries lol. She wasn't amused, but I definitely was! So I want to get a better gift this year.

This question has popped in my mind more than once. There are lots of Christian-themed songs from non-Christian bands out there and I was curious to know if any of you had any favorites.

Mine happens to be "Savin' Me" by Nickelback. The lyrics are incredibly powerful.

It really doesnt matter what traditions were incorporated to arrive to the holiday that it is today. Bottom line is, no matter what the history or the tradition, Christmas is meant to be a celebration of the birth of Christ nowadays. Many people choose to ignore that point and just stick to the secular points of christmas, which is fine, but to try to say christmas is a pagan holiday or its really some other kind of holiday is silly because as it stands today Christmas is meant to represent the birth of Christ.
I could care less how halloween started. It is now just a fun day to dress up and get candy. Does it really matter how and why Christmas started?

I'm a true good girl, i'm not a "goody goody" but i've always been the type of person w. a good head on my shoulders. I've been raised by strict, old fashioned parents and have had good morals. I'm not easy, i don't play hard to get, i just am. I have good judgement when it comes to guys and know when it's got real potential for love and lust.

I've done something i feel ashamed of...i know people have diff standards and what i did was "nothing" but it's definitely "out of character" for me. I'm in my early 20's going through one of the most confusing and hard times. I'm going through a "divorce" w a best friend that i can't shake off and deal with which has led me to be vulnerable, sad, lonely. I didn't have sex but did things that lead up to it w. someone i wasn't in a loving relationship w. :(

I'm not a hardcore religious person but i have a lot of faith in God. I feel ashamed and feel like i'm cheating on myself when i wake up in the morning...what do i do?

I recall when I was younger & men started wearing earrings whether you wore an earring in one ear or both was constituted as a 'gay' signal or not. I've just returned from Europe & was told while in the UK that is still the case, but I hadn't noticed or been aware of such in the US, so I'm curious what the current "rules" or "signals" are if any?

Doesn't everything depend on something dying.

Isn't it in out nature to be brutal animals?

Shouldn't we let our animalistic tendencies out?

Shouldn't the beast be allowed to roam free, the chains released and the claws unsheathed?

What do you think?

When I was a kid, I never believed in Santa. Not because anyone told me not to, but because I learned somewhere along the way that it was about Jesus...

the other reason being that I noticed that all the presents from "santa" had my mom's handwriting.

I always thought that I would teach my kids that Santa is fictional. And that the true meaning is about Jesus, etc.

My hubby thinks it's better to teach him about Santa. But I think that just sets him up for disappointment when he learns the truth.

What did you think as a kid and what did/will you teach your kids?

Just want to get some various opinions on the matter.

In the bible there is armageddon
and we crave it like we crave the air
getting off on condemning our fellow men
We'll be watching you from way up there!

Later on, we'll conspire
as we watch you catch on fire
To face unafraid, the God that we made

We have tried everything accept going into the medical aspect.
Invitro is out but My DR. wants me to start a fertility drug right before my husband comes home from Iraq.
I have been told that this is against the Catholic religion. Is this true?
I absolutly do not understand it.
Its not like an invitro process it just enhances the ovulation process, Thats it.
If the view is, that God wants you to have a child then he will give you one, then is my option of adopting out. Its the same concept.

why?
he hasn't done anything wrong. So, ok he's gay. People need to start getting over it. They think he is great until they find out his sexuality. So what he likes guys it doesn't mean he likes every guy he sees. We were out earlier today and he got beaten up by these guys. Everybody was just standing around laughing and i was the only person who got them off him. I earned a bloody lip for it but i don't care because i wasn't about to see him being beaten up purely for the reason he is gay.
I love gay people, men and women. They are genuinely nice people and I don't understand the prejudice they face. It's really upsetting me now.
Why are people so narrow minded and horrible?
