That several hundred thousand ordinary Britons stepped forward, when asked, to die in a fight to save us all from a continental tyranny. As usual.
And that I hope that I will be equal to a similar task, whenever the Call comes for me.
That courage without skill fails, as Lee discovered at Gettysburg. So, I must devote my brains to the good of others.
'Valour and innocence have recently gone hence
To certain death, by certain shame attended
Envy, even to tears, at the newness of their years
Though so few, yet so divinely ended!'

It's called Veterans Day here and today my thoughts are on my daughter being commissioned in the Army soon.... my thoughts of my years spend in the Army..... wishing that people had listened to me when I physically protested this Iraqi warcrime beforehand..... and so forth. Veterans rocks! There is a camaraderie that exists among us that is probably the best of my remembrance parts.

My dad. I don't remember him as I was only a year old when he joined the Royal Air Force and went to fight in the Second World War.He died as a Prisoner of War in the hands of the Japanese, after his troopship got torpedoed. He was 28 years old and he died for me. I wish I had known him.God Bless all the Veterans.

I always go to the war graves cemetery on Remembrance Sunday.
Kids died so that we can live. It makes me cry every year.
