Imagine a quiet island with a lot of greenery, with traffic lights that allow an older person to cross the street, with benches and seats evey 10 feet, with pharmacies instead of motor bike stores, with medical facilities everywhere....

I don't know about you guys, but I have a hard time reading the scriptures; Bible, Book of Mormon, ect. Actually, I've hacd a hard time paying attention to anything I read lately..lol, that's not the point right now though. :)
I was wondering, does anyone have any tricks for understanding and paying more attention to what you read from the scriptures? I'm having an especially hard time with the Old Testament- the book we're studying in Seminary this year (for all of those who are not LDS, Seminary is a class, either before school, during school, or home-study course, where LDS memebers and non-LDS alike can learn more about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We focus on one book each year; Old Testament, new Testament, Book of Mormon, ect. ) When reading the Old Testament, how do you better pay attention? I know the simple pray before hand and all that, but does anyone else have any other ideas? I just can't seem to learn anything. All POSITIVE ideas are welcome.

I am very disturbed by the holy books which show blind faith in God without proving that he exists.
This is especially true in Islam or Quran where it says : The purpose of life is to worship and give yourself to Allah ! But in my opinion, purpose of life would be to serve and help others and make this world a better place to live.
I am not going to disclose my own religion or lack of.
would greatly appreciate any comments

*i'm a Christian, but i'm just trying to understand this*

there's verse( i forgot, SRY!) but it's very popular, where Jesus calls a woman in need, a dog. he did not know this wmoan whatsoever, so he had no right to call some random person a dog. he saw many random people everyday, and he chose HER out of all of them...WTF?!

and why does he flip over those guy's table, where they were selling sacrifices? SO WHAT if they were SELLING the sacrifice, instead of killing it! you might say "well it was Jesus's house, becuase he's God's son" ...well... in the What WE call "MORTAL" world, you don't get to choose if you wanna be God's son.
for all THEY knew, Jesus was just some random average guy who was walking passed.
isn't that called "VANDALISM"? it was THEIR property! no one "CONFIRMED" that Jesus was God's son during those times...

sry i'm talking LOUD, but i had a really bad day, and i just wanted to understand this. THANX!

OK, DNA is over 99% accurate right? We accept it as science. What if I were to assemble a team of statisticians to test the probability of certain phrophecies and then had an independant team of archeologists to verify the specific elements. There are some very detailed prophecies in the bible and with the proper funding Christians could satisfy some Atheists with a quantifiable answer. I just thought this up, what are your thoughts. take the city of Tyre for example.
Nebuchadneser and Alexander the great laid devistation to it that can be seen just as described in the bible. You can take a look at the city on wikipedia to compare. the method used to bring this city down was exact. etc. then look up cyrus in Isaiah 43 I think? His name mentioned before he was born...a non jew king helps them rebuild the temple. conservative estimates are that there are about 100 of these.

How many of you are telling people here they are going to burn in hell. I see this in alot of QAs from nonChristian posters that this is told to them on a daily basis all the time on here. I think I miss it when it happens, but Im sure it happens from time to time. So, do you do this and if so, why. I think I will ask this question again this evening to get a better idea of the entirety of the board. Thanks :)

I have a silver star made by my eldest son (37) and a snowman made from cotton wool and the inside cardboard of a toilet roll made by my youngest (35) when they were at nursery school. They come out every year and my sons always say not to use them, but I think they are really secretly pleased. They will never be thrown away.

Today I was to take the young man I take care of to have the sutures removed from surgery he had 2 weeks ago. His mom gave me the key to her car, since mine is out of commission. The problem wwas, the key didn't open the door, so a neighbor went to go get the thingy that unlocks the door from Maries work. The appointment was at 3 PM. it was then 2:25. so maybe enough time, then Brian was late getting back from the disability board. Finally, we are on our way! Yeah, then the car overheats. My cell phone battery is almost dead, we are now an hour late for the appointment, I am wearing wool. lined and I am told to turn the heat on in the car so the car doesn't overheat. Brian has the stitches removed, everything looks great and then I am told to taste what liquid is coming out of the car, is it sweet? The last time this was done, it was dog pee, so I am not about to venture into that catagory again.
Then I stand in a pile of red ants....so how was your day?

A "Subliminal" message should be circulated as "THE DAILY ODD SPOT", emphasis on "spot", a really newsworthy, and informative question. Of course a Newspaper needs a good editor. GW.? This in intself is subliminal.

For parents with non-english native language, what is the best way to teach/speak to their children so they can speak english well and yet still able to converse in their native language?
Should the parents speak both language?
What if one of the parent speak in English and the other speak in native language?
Or should the parents just speak in native language and the child will learn English from friends, school, and TV?

Ok. Well my mother is Roman catholic, and my dad is Church of England. My mum was bought up in a very religious family and grew up to hate the religon. My dad liked going to church and bought me every week (church of england) when I was young, but when I was 7 my dancing changed to sunday and I told him I wanted to leave church for dancing and because I was growing to old for sunday school he didn't try and make me go so I left.
This year i've started a Roman Catholic school for 6th form and for some reason it just feels so right. I feel that God is watching over me more and I can always find the answers to my questions now, unlike before. It just really feels right, it's hard to explain. I feel the need to convert to the faith so I can attend catholic church, Before recently, I hadn't been much of a good person and I want to wash away my sins. Problem is my mum will not be pleased and she may get angry at my nan saying that she's brainwashed me. I'm only 16 and not sure what to do?

Okay, so I remember in high school our history class taught about the Catholic church selling tickets to Heaven to increase revenue. It was a long time ago, maybe in the middle ages. Can anyone explain when this happened, and the details of it?

Thanks!
