OK, DNA is over 99% accurate right? We accept it as science. What if I were to assemble a team of statisticians to test the probability of certain phrophecies and then had an independant team of archeologists to verify the specific elements. There are some very detailed prophecies in the bible and with the proper funding Christians could satisfy some Atheists with a quantifiable answer. I just thought this up, what are your thoughts. take the city of Tyre for example.
Nebuchadneser and Alexander the great laid devistation to it that can be seen just as described in the bible. You can take a look at the city on wikipedia to compare. the method used to bring this city down was exact. etc. then look up cyrus in Isaiah 43 I think? His name mentioned before he was born...a non jew king helps them rebuild the temple. conservative estimates are that there are about 100 of these.

acusations of revision? The burden of proof is on you.

making a prediction that is easy to make, the sun will come out tomorrow? hardly. what else do you write off so quickly in life?

thanks atheists. but read it fully before answering it.

this kind of stuff makes peoples eyes gloss over, "what detailed prophesies" you have to read before you respond with the knee jerk reaction. but hey, this is yahoo answers

OK, maybe you shouldn't except the burden of proof, but the point here is to create...yes a conjecture...that is equivalent to that that we accept for something as scientific as DNA

nostrodamas is vague. I'm not talking about what ever promo you say while you were waiting on your favorite rerun to air. I'm talking about that dusty old book on the shelf that no one wants to open. Wake up and smell the coffee!

Why don't you show me these prophecies from the Hebrew bible and not the Septuagint. Your "prophecies" are malarkey.

The burden of proof is on us? You expect us to prove that the translators of the bible didn't go back and fudge a few facts and details after the fact?

Pretty convenient, considering that the originals to most of these texts have been lost for centuries.

But I agee with Pangel. Just because a prophecy comes true doesn't confirm the existence of the christian god.

The trouble with prophecies is that it's easy to make a prophecy which comes true (e.g. the sun will rise tomorrow) and it's easy to take a prophecy from ages ago and find some later event which seems to fit it. Neither of these things actually prove that the prophecies have any kind of validity.

Your logic is flawed and you could hardly call this a "proof." It's more of a conjecture. Even if you did prove the existence of some of the characters in the bible this would only prove that they existed and nothing more. You would only have proven that "elements" of the bible have SOME basis in fact. I can prove the Isaac Newton existed but this, in turn, does NOT prove that an apple actually fell on his head! I could conceed all of the evidence you presented as fact and this would still not prove any existence of God.

There seem to be a lot of "what if"s in your logic.

But I'm quite sure that less than 99% of all [edited] prophecies are ever going to come true.

However, do you expect atheists to take you seriously if you can make vague connections between mythology and real life? It still doesn't prove your God to be real.

And by the way, this answer officially bumps me up to LEVEL 6. Woot.

I guess you do not pay much attention to archeology. They found the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah {Ash} exactly where the Bible said.King Solomons temple exactly.a boat in the Galilee with 12 seats dates exactly to the time of Jesus.
So much more,British museum has many truths in there possession.

the religion was made by people. the exact same things the religion is against, the non religious societies were also against. homosexuals were always discriminated, even in societies with atheists, then a religion was created and it was also against gays. and sodomy isnt okay, and sex before marriage isnt okay, lying, adultery. all that stuff was already in the society.

so someone burned that city and they wrote in the books that some religious dude did that.

Personally I think that religion was merely a tool that people used to use to explain what they couldn't otherwise. Nowadays people take things in the bible way too literally and I refuse to buy into any of it because I can see that religion told people answers to dificult questions. But now that we have answers that make sense, people are unwilling to change their thoughts.

That would not be proof? So you just thought it up - NOW!

Thinking like that is not good. What 'detailed' prophecies?

Start another round of thinking......
