While receiving in audience members of the chapter of St. Peter's Basilica, the group entrusted with the care of the ancient church, the Pope said , ""Prayer is a service to the Lord, who deserves to be praised and adored, and at the same time it is a witness to others. And where God is praised and adored with faithfulness, blessing is not lacking."

"In this holy place, where thousands of pilgrims and tourists come everyday from all over the world, more than elsewhere it is necessary that there be a stable community of prayer that guarantees continuity with tradition and at the same time intercedes for the intentions of the pope in the Church and world today."

The Pope entrusted to the chapter a special mission: "to recall, with your prayerful presence, that nothing comes before God; that the Church is always oriented toward Him, to his glory"

Why do so many people refer to Jesus as god's 'only begotten son'? The word 'begotten' refers to being sired or produced.

Therefore, Jesus should be referred to as 'God's only son', not 'God's only begotten son'. It means exactly the same thing, nothing is achieved by adding this extra word.

So, answering honestly - how many people actually knew what the term means, even though they probably write it down every time they mention Jesus?

They are found on your Yahoo Mail home page. Today is a story about "telecom Immunity". This is the first blurb I've seen on the subject of internet security, and FISA.
Read it very carefully and you can
tell from certain statements that internet
communications will be open to
government surveillance.
I can't keep you updated on this,but
I'm asking others interested to bring
up this subject also.

since you are your own god and your own follower, why do you insist that you are right and Catholics are wrong just because you are holding a Bible in your hands?

The Bible is like a giant history book, it learns from itself, and in it exists valid and invalid doctrines when it comes to pertaining those doctrines to life today. For example, many of the books of the OT, Leviticus comes to mind, are only valid and relevant to the people of those times. Following portions of those doctrines would be unsound if not illegal today. Other examples are Letters, these are really only relevant to the immediate time period.

The real Bible is the Gospels and a few other books that pertain to Jesus, well to Christianity, not Judaism. And these are what need to be emphasised. Following laws in the OT is like applying the ideas of Nazism to this modern day. It's unsound, and outdated, among other things. Be my example a bit crude, but it is true to an extent.

Not to say atheists and christians in particular- every religion can answer as to their religion to anyone else.

Also, when I say "rights," I'm excluding religion. I'm basically asking if you'd let religion get in the way of basic rights of a person

Personally, I would fight for anyone's rights- as a christian, God gave them a life- they deserve to live it with rights. as a person, every human should be of the same stantards of equality

Lev. 1:11, regarding the sacrifice (flock) being killed on the "north" side of the altar, and in Lev. 1:16, the sacrifice (birds) beside the altar on the "east" side?

An atheist asked: "CHRISTIANS, why doesn't God like Kiwis (the birds)? I mean come on, he gave them wings but then them so small that they couldn't even fly..."

My answer was: "Why are you asking Christians? Why not Jews, or Muslims? Don't you think they have an opinion on this? Well, tell the truth: You're just an anti-Christian bigot who wants to agitate Christians. You don't give a rats a** about Kiwis..."

So, the atheist added this detail: "Actually, Catholic Crusader, you were right until you said I didn't care about Kiwis..."

There it is. Comdemned out of her own mouth. Don't believe me? Here is the link: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AkJ5OpHMto9WfiiI6tiMOMHsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071010144413AAKbHoD&show=7#profile-info-KrhPNa4Saa

So, now you see why we get upset at atheists and other agitators so often. I get thumbs down for my hard hitting respones, when it turns out that I was RIGHT ON THE MONEY.
Well? Comments? Anyone care to try and whitewash this one

Man #1: "Man #2 stole $1000 from me!"

Judge: "Do you have any evidence of this?"

Man #1: "I don't have to have proof! I said it was true so it is!"

Does anyone not see the problem here? YOU claim god is real, yet you tell ME to disprove it. Why? YOU claim it, therefor it is YOUR responsibility, as the one why claims it, to prove it.

Asking me to disprove god is like asking someone to disprove that Purple Gunga Lizards live on the planet Hubawuba in a solar system 3 million light years away.

Why don't Christians see this logic?

Again, I'm having an off day, so sorry if what I say is "off" as well, but when you say something like "christians tell people they're going to hell for not believing" or "christians tell people to go to hell"
are you saying that as sarcasm, as a way to emphasize how the bible says that people who do not live in christ will go to hell, or do christians actually tell you that?

and yes, apparently I am still new to R&S, even after "living" in it for awhile

Today at work, a co-worker told me that he believes in God, but that if he ever gets cancer or leukemia that he will elect to not receive treatment (chemo/radiation, etc).
Now, if this really does come about, and he dies because he refused treatment, would God consider that suicide? Would he be among the "etrnally damned"? Why or why not?

Your kind thoughts, please.

The Divorced Barbie Doll

One day a father gets out of work and on his way home he suddenly
remembers that it's his daughter's birthday. He pulls over to a toy shop
and asks the sales person, "How much for one of those Barbie's in the
display window?"

The salesperson answers, "Which one do you mean, sir? We have:
Work Out Barbie for $19.95, Shopping Barbie for $19.95, Beach Barbie
for $19.95, Disco Barbie for $19.95, Ballerina Barbie for $19.95, Astronaut
Barbie for $19.95, Skater Barbie for $19.95, and Divorced Barbie for $265.95".

The amazed father asks: "It's what?! Why is the Divorced Barbie $265.95
and the others only $19.95?"

The annoyed salesperson rolls her eyes, sighs, and answers: "Sir...,"
Divorced Barbie comes with: Ken's Car, Ken's House, Ken's Boat, Ken's
Furniture, Ken's Computer and ...Oh! One of Ken's friends!

I am a graduate student in my first year of study. A new graduate student was added to the program this semester and we share the same advisor as well as the same office. I have made every effort to be kind and friendly to her. In my opinion, she has interpreted my kindness for weakness and has started to talk down to me in a pretentious manner. She takes every opportunity to try and make me feel inferior and stupid. I want to be professional in the way I handle this situation but I cannot deal with her attitude anymore. Its beginning to interfere with my productivity and self esteem. What should I do?

I've read quite a few answers on here with people saying that they've read the Quran and it answered all their questions. Do you really mean that or are you just saying? I'm not going to sit here and say that the Quran is chock-full of hatred or anything like that but it sure as hell doesn't have any answers to life. It's just stories with the threat of hell thrown in every once in a while. Nothing sigifnicant, so if you haven't read it don't lie and say you have!

I have a few questions about your religion, both Asatru and Hellenic Polytheists.

1. What religion do you follow? Is that what you prefer it be called? (I've heard lots of different names)

2. How were you led to your religion?

3. What do you think when people refer to the story of your Gods as myths? Have you ever confronted somebody about it?

4. Is it true that a lot of people join your religion simply to rebel, rather than for true belief? how do you feel about this, if true?

5. Do you have a specific name for the building you meet in?

6. Do you speak any Old Norse/ Ancient Greek?

7. Do you consider Odin to be the same as Zeus? Are they the same as the God of other religions?

Any other interesting info would be nice.

As for why I'm asking this, I'm interested in other religions, and these two are quite different from the rest due to their being reconstructed.

I think it was last week, that someone asked a question about atheism! One of you, or more gave a list of books to read! One was "The God Delusion'!
I thought that I had bookmarked the question, so I could write down the names, but I didn't! I am a fledgling atheist, and need some guidance, and beside the main theme, no deities, I want the history of atheism! Could you please give the titles again?
I would like more in depth information about atheism!
Thanks for your help!!!!!
