Again, I'm having an off day, so sorry if what I say is "off" as well, but when you say something like "christians tell people they're going to hell for not believing" or "christians tell people to go to hell"
are you saying that as sarcasm, as a way to emphasize how the bible says that people who do not live in christ will go to hell, or do christians actually tell you that?

and yes, apparently I am still new to R&S, even after "living" in it for awhile

wow...i mean, not to say that i don't believe people do go to hell, but to say it straight out as if to scare them into believing? that's...bleh

And to teh first answerer- no, i'm not saying that i live somewhere that has absolutley no "religion spreaders," but i can say that i live in a place where it's much less emphasized and critical and...well, it's much less like R&S. it's like a tolerant, multirelgion place. BUT, don't waste your money moving- afterall, i am only 13, in school or at home or outside not for religion (most of the time)

You're not very clear - I had to read a coupla answers to figger out whatcha talking.

Obviously you are new here.
We often have fundies in R&S telling us atheists that we're going to hell; fundies saying this sorta thing is as common as muck.

AND, do you know, many of us come here just for the comedy - you can be assured that if a fundie goes on about us going to hell he's gonna say some other funny stuff too.
R&S is cheap comedy.
LOLz

No, people can interpret the bible any way they want. Hence all the different denominations of Christianity. Not all Christians believe that all non Christians go to hell.
It's the ones that do that make me extremely glad not to be a member of their hateful denomination of Christianity. Any church that teaches that all Hindus, buddhists, agnostics, atheists, taoists, etc...deserve to burn in hell for eternity for the "sin" of not being Christian is not any church that I would ever want to affiliate myself with even if I did believe in God.

I have been told this, but for the most part, I've received a lot of Christians as being respectful to the decisions of others. Usually, if I hear something to this effect, I shrug it off, not only because it's rude, but it's closed-minded.

I've been told many times by many christians (up to and including my own mother) that I'm going to hell for my beliefs. Just because I don't believe the way they do. The problem is that those of us who aren't christian don't believe in hell, so it's not a very good threat. These are just my observations.

No, there ARE a number Christians who have told me this. I have the hate mail to prove it. I have also been handed tracts in the street and have seen zealots stand on the sidewalk with megaphones to preach this.

In fact, you can even search for "questions" posted right here to R&S that say the same thing.

And to think, I don't even live in the south!

You actually live in a place with NO proselytizers? Where is this?!? Tell me, and I'll consider moving!

It seems to me that Yahoo's new system is working and removing more sludge more quickly, so maybe you haven't seen them. Or, maybe you don't click questions addressed to atheists, but I've seen innumerable posts on this very site telling me (and my fellow atheists) that we are going to burn in hell.

Some are screaming (all caps) rants, telling us to repent or burn, some are "You'll be sorry when you're all burning forever. HAHAHAHAHA" kinds of things.

But, yes, literally, Christians (and others) have told us we're going to hell.

That is, unless you claim that god signed up on this site and posted all those "questions" and answers!

;-)

Edit: Dang! I KNEW I'd regret cleaning out my Watch List. I had a bunch there (that hadn't been removed), but I've been emptying out the old questions, so I don't have them any more. I bet if you did a Search on "burn in hell" you'd find a lot of examples.

Ignorance is universal, just because you claim to be a christian does not save you from it.

Before I became a believer I was frequently told by those 'Christians' I new that I was going to hell. Most don't even realize just how contemptuous that makes them sound.

Yes it is the belief as told in the Bible that those who do not except Jesus as their Saviour will go to hell. But we are not told how this will be determined, and we are told that judgment is God's and God's alone. So by making those statements they are condemning themselves through their own beliefs.

You would do well to remind those who condemn you of this fact.

I have been led detail by detail through the agonizing details of what awaits me in hell by family no less and to make it even more special it's all said with a smile of excitement because the raptures gonna be so cool it's too bad I have used my free will to refuse to believe in the glories of heaven.

This is a copy/paste that I received in emails from two Christians here..."if you don't change your ways God will judge u and u will go to hell" and another..."get an abortion you whore, since you are going to hell anyway." Sorry about the language.
