I think it was last week, that someone asked a question about atheism! One of you, or more gave a list of books to read! One was "The God Delusion'!
I thought that I had bookmarked the question, so I could write down the names, but I didn't! I am a fledgling atheist, and need some guidance, and beside the main theme, no deities, I want the history of atheism! Could you please give the titles again?
I would like more in depth information about atheism!
Thanks for your help!!!!!
lol & peace

I don't know about books on the history of atheism, but some of my favorite reads on non-belief are: "God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything" by Christopher Hitchens and "The End of Faith" and "Letter to a Christian Nation" by Sam Harris. I also recommend "When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops" by George Carlin.

Uh, you need guidence? Of what sort?
Atheism doesn't have a dogma you have to learn.
As for history, there was a documentary on BBC, played on PBS called "A History of Disbelief" that was pretty cool.
I recently read Darwin's Dangerous Idea, which is pretty good, though a bit of a brain-breaker.
Notice the Search function of this site; you do search on "God Delusion" and find the particular list you're looking for.
(In future, you can put a question on your Watch List to get back to it easily later.)

It is not really necessary to know the history of Atheism, because the answers are found through analysis of many religious texts and finding the insufficiencies they provide so you can provide an educated argument while being informed and understanding that deist religions all constitute a substitute for the unknown. However, if you are interested, it really wouldn't hurt.

The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins
I also enjoyed a humorous book about creationists titled "A Flock Of Dodos" (not the same as the film)
Breaking The Spell by Daniel Dennett is another good one.

Jesus Never Existed is really good. You can buy it from this website: www.jesusneverexisted.com
Also check out The Jesus Puzzle by Earl Doherty.
I don't know if there are any books about the history of atheism, but you can study it's modern emergence through reading many older public domain books on atheism at http://infidels.org/library/historical/ Robert Ingersoll is one late 19th century author I would recommend.

You speak of atheism as if it were a religion in and of itself. It is far from that, it is simply the lack of belief in any god. Many people style themselves athiests when they are merely mad at, and being rebellious against, christianity. Those folk seek to replace the belief they are rebelling-against with something. Are you sure that this isn't what you're doing? In the end it really doesn't matter, just to thy own self be true, and examine your beliefs, and/or lack thereof, honestly.

"each and every time I see an atheist asking a troll question, posing as a Christian (constantly a bigoted one), " or you only desire to think of that. because of the fact there are some very bigoted very idiotic persons on the Christian section. yet i assume that's greater handy to easily call them atheist trolls. "and not the Christians." Uh huh. "his question would not even sound like what a Christian might say." i've got seen Christians spout the main hateful drivel conceivable. people like NCWJ.
