Hmmm, time for a trip to the ENT, who will check your ears and send you to an audiologist for a complete workup. Forget going to a hearing aid dealer (like Beltone or Hearx) because not only do they frequently sell the hearing aid that is more expensive but not necessarily the right one for the type and severity of loss you have, they aren't qualified to fully assess your hearing..

mumps at 10 left my left ear with a serious hearing loss in the voice range. IF I am a passenger in a car, and the driver doesn't speak up, it comes across as a mumble. I say, "what did you say," and for some reason, they turn their head to the driver's window and repeat what they have said...but this time, softer. !!!! If I am watching TV and hearing just fine, along comes a commercial and breaks my good eardrum...it takes an hour to recover. Then, of course, tune into a digital channel with HDTV and the volume goes through the floor...adjust the volume so you can hear it, then change channels and again, you are deafened. Isn't TV sooooo very worthwhile? No , it isn't just you. Peace, Goldwing

Yes, but it seems to come and go when I am having allergy issues. My ears feel like there is cotton stuffed in them. I'm sure it has to do with the change of seasons and all the pollen, etc. in the air.

Speaking of hearing problems, that reminds me of a little joke you might enjoy . . .

An elderly gentleman had severe hearing problems for years. He went to see his doctor to have him fitted for a set of hearing aids that allowed the gentleman to hear 100%. The elderly gentleman went back in a month to the doctor and the doctor said, "Your hearing is perfect. Your family must be really pleased that you can hear again."

The gentleman replied, "Oh, I haven't told my family yet. I just sit around and listen to the conversations. I've changed my will three times!"

Yes, but it is the "Charleston" accent, frankly I am clueless what they are saying at times, and I only feel like asking to repeat themselves once, which they kindly do, they just think I am stupid or hearing imparied.... A Charleston accent is like trying to speak around a ball in your mouth. Reload is reeeeeeloooad. They "mash" buttons here, I mash potatoes, so you can see where it may be confusing to some. Dinner is at 12 noon, my dinner is at 6 pm.....I have lived here 7 years, and I still am a work in progress. I drive a friend to the store, they "carry" people to the store. It is the visual that throws me, I personally couldn't carry a dog to the store.

I don't have trouble with my hearing, but some commercials are so loud by the time you turn them down no one can hear the program that was on. You may want to have it checked though to be sure you're not losing some of your hearing.

Yes! It started a few years ago, I would suddenly say to the kids, "can you hear that?", and they would say yes. So I went off to the Doctor, and asked him to wash my ears out. He had a look at them and said that he was sorry, I had 'swimmers ear', which means the membrane thins out. So now the TV gets turned up a little louder!

Thank you for addressing this. I have diminished hearing due, I think, to loud rock music( I was in a band {not a good band} but LOUD.)
I am too embarrassed to break down and get checked for a hearing aid.
Maybe I could learn to lip read.
