It is described in the Bible so many times. I never believed it at first but then I actually started reading my Bible. I saw a documentary about it on the History Channel. They even had Catholic Priests on there that believed in it. I don't get why Churches shun the belief if it is scriptual. What did they have to lose if they taught it? Now everyone is against it so it will never be a widespread Christian belief.

Why does it seem that the more technologically advanced the human race becomes, the stupider we get?

I'm not trying to offend, just curious.
How do you (Catholics) justify the following:

1.The Pope - Why is he the holy father? Isn't God the holy father? What makes an elected official holier than anybody else and why is he allowed to change the rules?

2.Confession Booths - When Jesus tore down the curtain, wasn't that so we can all talk to God? Why do we need a priest as a medium if we can all talk to God?

3.Virgin Mary - Why isn't praying to Mary the same thing as idolatry? Mary isn't God. Also, why do Catholics say Mary is with God in Heaven and everybody else is in purgatory? That's not scriptual.

4.Rosary beads. What's the deal with those? They aren't scriptual.

Thanks for the honest answers.

It's very interesting from whichever side of the fence you are on.

I would recommend the article section called "Objections to evolution's scientific acceptance" but really, the whole things is quite good.

I learned on ABC news that today we opened our first Arabic speaking PUBLIC SCHOOL! Does anyone seriously think this is O.K.? Does anyone seriously think that Islam is not going to be taught in this school? Has our goverment not been digging it's heels in on the so called separation of church an state since 1948? What, does this only apply to Christianity? I believe America as we have known it, is no more. She's being taken over from within. I think we may have reached the point of no return.God help us.

If you put"Arabic public schools" in your search engine you will find the news articles.

I was Baptized Baptist and attend a Baptist church. Currently I am not happy at the church I attend and I am looking for another. I am not unhappy with the doctrine, it is more of a feeling that this is not where we are supposed to be. I dont feel my kids are getting all they need out of it, nor am I. There is another church nearby that has a great program for children, it is AOG. I am wantiing to know what the differences are. Thank you.

ok-so I am one confused person right now.Grew up,parents christians, rebelled against it,anxiety/depression led me to think about christianity and for the past 2 years I have gone thru phases of being v.faithful to my faith as it were,to pretty much forgetting about it completely.
I love lively worship,I do believe the basics but here are my probs:
-non christians going to hell-all my mates/some family members are going to hell then and I refuse to believe that-i think it is a v.unlogical silly idea and only god knows their fate
-the whole every sin being equally bad and punished for- so rape and swearing are equally sinful?WHAT?
-homeosexuality being wrong and homeosexuals going to hell-again their cld still be lots of love in a gay r'ship+gay people can be amazing characters v.undeserving of hell!
-sex b4 marriage being wrong-sex strengthens a r'ship, brings it closer,is important and again, def not worthy of goin to hell for in my view!

any thoughts/opinions welcome!

my friend is a born muslim... but he doesnt believe in God. forget islam. he doesnt believe in GOD. the supernatural being and such. he is thinking of converting when he's older. i tried to teach him what little i know... but to no avail. i think its an inborn belief...so ive given up.

my question is: if he chooses to convert away from islam... will i be allowed (while being a practising muslim) to remain friends with him? or will i have to break off contact? please keep in mind that he is my closest and only friend, so this is a pretty hard thing for me. I think you get to choose your religion at age 16 in the UK (legal adult)... and he is moving to the UK in 3 years... by which time he will be 16.
Are there any exceptions?

thank you for your help. it means a lot that you read and at least tried to answer this. Im torn between friendship and religion here.

Thanks again

A sacrifice is an offering or an act of appeasement given to a deity in an effort to procure favor and avoid impending disaster. Christ is our righteous sacrifice. He lived a sinless life.

The heart, the core, the kernel, of the everlasting gospel is that the Creator died for the creature, the potter for the clay, the judge for the criminal, the innocent for the guilty.

Ellen G. White wrote "painful process, mysterious to angels as well as to men"
---SDA Bible Commentary Vol.7, p. 915

We believe it, but we cannot truly comprehend it. We behold it, but we cannot adequately explain it.

Christ took our place. He paid our debt on Calvary.

Behold the Lamb of God. He died to save us from our sins.

John 3:16
Romans 10:9

Your response.......

Hebrew scholars have known for centuries that the first 5 books of the bible were not written by Moses but rather by 4 individual authors and, through the study of the language, can even say in which century and kingdom each lived.

If the church honestly didn't know who wrote them, why should these books be considered reliable?

To all enlightened ones, Today we will look at a fellow atheist who in his wisdom cast off the bonds and chains of religion as so many of you have. Our free thinker featured today single-handedly helped insure the death of at least 50,000,000 people. Thats million, just in case you missed it. Who is our star today? Non-other that MR. Frederick Nietchze. Now for 10 whole points, who can name me one of those evil Christians who can top this list for slaughter. Come on now, dig deep, and find me a Christian who cost the lives of 50,000,000. Be sure to tune in tomorrow to see part 2 of this question.

I ran out of answers and couldn't respond to the last hate attack, so I shall pose my point as a qustions: Do you know what "catholic" means? It means "universal" or "all-encompassing". In the Bible, particular local churches are spoken of )in Corinth, Ephesus, etc) but the Church is also spoke of in the "whole" sense; the Body of Christ - all believers. In this sense, the church is Catholic. Catholics usually prefer the name Catholic to Christian ( though not always) because the idea that the Church is of ALL believers everywhere is appealing. (Why would I want to call myself a "southern" Baptist - what about the "northern" ones?) The Church Jesus established was known by its most common title, "the Catholic Church," at least as early as the year 107, when Ignatius of Antioch used that title to describe the one Church Jesus founded. The title apparently was old in Ignatius’s time, which means it probably went all the way back to the time of the apostles.
