56 is not prime.

A prime number is an integer only divisible by itself and the number 1.

2 * 28 = 56 so 56 is not Prime.

If an integer is greater than 1 and is NOT Prime, its called a composite.

So 56 is a composite number and not a Prime number.

All integers greater than one are one or other but not both.

It certainly isn't a prime number, as the only even prime number is 2 and that's it.
It's a composite number because it isn't a prime number and it's higher than one, therefore it must be a composite number.

Every number is either prime or composite, so if it's not prime then it has to be composite.

56 is evenly divided by two, therefore it is not a prime number. Remember the definition of a prime number being a number that is only divisible by itself and the number 1.
