Would children get a better understanding of religion in all its forms from their parents or from a school?

This is child abuse, at school or at home. These young minds should be opened, not closed.

Religeous education would be best if the parents would teach it. unfortunately, There are too many parents who are not good at education. Thats why we have paid school teachers.
Those parents who do want their children taught about God , will either do it themselves, or send their children to a religeous based school. Public schools should just stay out of this, because we could get Satan religeon involved here. And we in the United States dont need that.

If you mean one particular religion, the one the family practices, home is the place to start. If you mean an education of all of the world religions, that would be better taught in schools. The big problem is in finding unbiased teachers. A teacher who is an all-out died-in-the-wool Baptist would be a poor teacher of the Hindu religion.
If the teacher was a very strict Muslim, he would have a problem teaching the benefits of Judaism.
Imagine a Catholic teacher teaching Shinto .

Wow - great question. I guess it depends on the religion of the parents. If a parent practices a certain religion, I doubt very seriously they could give an objective education on religion in general. Schools on the other hand would be able to teach the tenets and culture of different religions without teaching which is right or wrong - BUT only if the teacher was neutral. It's very difficult to do. I am trying to find a book or information to teach my own kids about the different religions without teacing them that any one is right or wrong!

Parent's all the way. That is why there are private schools. If the parents want their children to be involved in religious activities at school then they should send them to a school that caters to that. Its not fair for the child who is muslim or jewish to have to be subjected to religious things at school when they know its different at home and they just want to feel good about themselves and not have other children pick on them! Its the children who suffer!

I think both. Parents should raise their children in their religion at home and schools should have a religion class for an elective in middle and high school in case the students want to learn about different religions.

Unless it is a religion based school, I prefer to teach children about religion in the home. I did send all of my children to Catholic school, because that was the way my husband and I were both raised. After they became adults, it was their choice as to what to do with their religious preferences.

If parents would live out their lives for the sake of Christ, then, the schools would do also. But since Christ is being banned from the school system, this only comes by HIM being banned at home first of all..But it is according to What is prophesied in the word of God..All things regarding to God shall be torn down only to make way for the Antichrist to come and He will cause all to bow and worship Him as God and shall deceive millions...And cause them to receive a mark in their right hand in order to buy or sell..Want to know more, for His mark is already here? Go to trumpetmin.org and click-Could this be the mark? Now it is up to you to teach your children about this mark of the Antichrist, and unless you do, the schools won't and whose fault then will it be. Read Revelation 13-16 chapters.

Both: Parents first of course, then school. It is actually that way where we live. Our school has a Bible History Class.
In the 1940's the top 3 offenses in school were,
1.chewing gum
2.talking
3. making noise
When I was in School, every Monday we had a different preacher from churches all over our town give a devotion and prayer. Now that has stopped.

Today the top 3 offenses are
1. Rape.
2. Drugs
3. violence (assault)

In the UK they have Religious Education in which doesn't focus much on Religion but more on morality and women's problems (well my lessons did), the lessons did cover the major religions such as Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Christianity.
