I was thinking about this last night while watching Big Love...a girl was dating a guy and she was the no-sex-until marriage type and he wanted to have sex, it basically ended up being the deal breaker in their relationship.

I know a lot of us have said we can rise above something like religion when it comes to dating and marriage, but do you think you'd be able to maintain a relationship with someone who views sex so differently than you?

Meaning: if you think sex is fine and a natural part of a relationship, would you have a problem with your partner seeing it as something sacred that is only for marriage? Would this cause you to break it off completely, despite your feelings for the person?

And vice versa, would you be bothered if your mate (for lack of a better term) had a more casual view of sex than you?

Exodus 20:4 says "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below." Why the Catholic Catechism didn't include this commandment in its list? Maybe because there is a prolific business around the religious symbols?

I was thinking about you guys(God Bless You). . . the atheists and agnostics . I was trying to see the world from your eyes , but cannot without your help(God Bless You) .
And I'm wondering what it's like to know that roughly 90% of the world's population believes in 'God' , but you don't . Now this brings to mind many questions and some may appear to be smart-alecky , but they are not . They're real questions from a Christian's perspective .

Do you ever feel left-out of activities or discussions ?

Do you think you're part of an elite group of wise people and the other 90% of everyone else isn't ?
OR
The other side of that coin. . . Do you think we believers are inept , and you''re not ?

What Is It That Makes Over 90% Of The World Wrong . . . And You Right ?

You do have the 'God Given Right' (ok that was being smart-alecky) To Disagree With Us But Since You've 'Lived It' , I Wanna Know What You Think About It .

Oh , and God Bless You !!

I have found so much inconsistency psychologically leading to any "superior" entity, YET these religions command followings that reach into the BILLIONS ? Are people really that gullable, or doesn't truth matter ?

I was reading my Bible like I do everyday, because my pastor told me it makes God happy. While reading I stumbled on this verse:

“A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.”
-1 Timothy 2:11-12

Does this mean that Jesus is fine with women reading on Y! Answers as long as they don't post anything? I know women should never speak up at school to ask questions or share their views, but does the same apply for internet forums.

Technically, as long as they do not say anything then they are not in violation of Jesus' word, if we take it literally. Basically, I want to know if we should take the word of God literally and allow them to post, or should they be forbidden to engage in meaningful conversations online like they are in the real world.

You are on a transatlantic flight and seated in a window seat. The middle seat is occupied by an enthusiastic long-winded evangelical with a carry on bag full of gospel tracts. The aisle seat is occupied by a drunk and comatose sumo wrestler. You are armed with only an in flight magazine, a motion sickness bag and a spork.

Good luck.

I'm getting married soon (2nd marriage) and we are having an informal ceremony and celebration. My sister lives across the country, is much older, and is high maintenance. I know that she is not going to enjoy the party, plus she will probably be a pain in the a**. Nevertheless, I feel that I have to invte her - and she feels like she has to come. Is there any tactful way to end this charade and tell her that its okay if she stays at home without being rude?

He's made an atheist out of me, but does he just polarize most people? He can be unabashedly abrasive.

I like Jews, they never try to convert. They are a race/religion. It's cool with me. Pagans, well, I think they are insane, but, they never knock on my door trying to get me to convert, although my last six cats are missing (joke, don't get offended) and buddhists just say look within, they are all cool with me.
How about you?

- Have you ever took a deep thought about this life, what it is, why are we here?
- Have you ever thought about the end of the human race as much as how it began
- Have you ever looked at this world, the history, the people, the civilizations, everything, and thought for one second, WHY?
- Do you find that this is all just a mistake, mere concidence and little chemistry.
- Have you ever thought why chemistry is... chemistry, where are those laws coming from.. why is there physics, where do those laws come from...
- How can we have feelings for others (objects according to chemistry), why do we have those feelings, why do we have right and wrong (most things people agree on)

Please answer nicely...

(NOTE: btw, i studied and learned the whole concept of evolution, so no need to state it again, i am not interested in "how" but "why")

Whereas atheism, smoking, drug use, promiscuity and drinking all seem to be INVERSELY proportional to fatness.

Just an observation I've had. Is this only true where I live?

...and of course I'm speaking in generalities, there are always exceptions to the rule.

How can the answerer be so ignorant and naive? How can he even think that white people can be terrorists? Oh no, only if you are a West Asian or South Asian person you can be a terrorist - am I right?

The KKK claim that they're doing everything in accord to the Bible and that they're "true Christians". What do you think of them? Is it true that they're following the Bible? If so, then what part of the Bible are they using to justify such hatred? Why?

Tell me what you think, but don't use any racist language or bigotry that is a direct attack to a group or individual.

Many people use the argument that there is no proof of god because that would negate the need for faith. In the days of the old testament, god interacted on a regular basis with his followers and his chosen people. He spoke out of storm clouds and sent plagues after their enemies. There seemed to be no lack of evidence that god was real back then -- going on the assumption that everything in the bible is accurate.

So, what's changed, exactly?

We've been together 6 years, we'd been talking about getting engaged. Now he says he can't do it because he can't let go of some things that happened in the past. My heart is breaking and I just want to scream and cry, but I'm sitting at a desk in an open newsroom and I just can't let it out. How do I keep my composure? Should I just go home?? My mind is in a frenzy right now and I don't know what to do.
