The Woman is " clothed with the sun, and the moon underneath her feet and on her head a crown of twelve stars"
In Genesis 37:9, Joseph in his dream saw the sun, the moon and the eleven stars signifying his father, mother and his eleven brothers. The sun, the moon and the eleven stars, plus Joseph himself signify the totality of God's people on the earth. Based on the principle of that dream, the sun the moon and the twelve stars here must signify the totality of God's people on the earth which is symbolized by a Woman.
Most of her being is clothed with the sun. The sun signifies God's People in the New Testament age. Before Christ came to the world, it was the dark night of the Old Testament age. When CHrist , as the Rising Sun came from on High ( Luke 1:78) the age of the sun came, the New testament age. Before that, it was the age of the moon which signifies God's people in the Old Testament time. The Moon underneath the feet of the woman, for the age of the moon was the age of the Law, which should NOT be exaulted as the stars are. The stars, which signify the patriarchs, God's people before the Law was given are on her head as a crown.
All God's people in these three ages, who together constitute this woman, are light bearers. Hence she is the bright woman shining throughout all generations.
Vs 2 " And she was with Child and she cried out travailing in birth and being in pain to bring forth"
This woman cries out and travails.. she prays and travails signifying that throughout all generations God's people have been suffering the travail of delivery to bring forth the man-child that he may fight for God's Kingdom.
Vs 5. ' And she brought forth a son, a man -child who is to shepherd the nations with an iron rod, and her child was caught up to God and to His throne.
In the bible, woman signifies the weaker one and man the stronger one ( 1Peter 3:7). Hence the man-child here signifies the stronger part of God's people. That the man-child is to shepherd all the nations with an iron rod indicates that the man-child consists of the overcomers as mentioned in Rev 2:26-27.
The man-child brought forth by the woman is composed of all the overcoming saints who have died and been resurrected. This is proven by the words ' Unto death" in vs 11
" And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony and they did not love their soul life even unto death"
This is actually study in the book of Revelation and i hope that more of it could be touched as time goes by so we can all have a clear view of what the word has for us.
Great question by the way

The woman clothed with the sun is Eve. The 12 are the 12 Apostles and the child is Jesus. Eve was first in the land of Nod, the 2nd Age. Jesus prepared at place for her which was the garden of Eden, the 3rd Age, for a Time, Times, and Half-a-Time. The flood was Noah, the 4th Age. Then the dragon, the snake, the serpent, the devil, Satan came and deceived Moses into worshipping him, from the mount of sin, (Sinai) and the dragon gave power to the beast, and he performed miracles in the sight of men. Moses made and image of the beast and them who would not worship the image died. (John 3:14, John 1:17 and John 6:32)
This the true Word of God, concerning the creation of humans. Notice there is no Adam. In the beginning men and women were born of the Holy Ghost just Jesus and John were. The devil created the tares.
The first bowl has been cast down to the earth. The 7th and final Age is at hand, and is a Half-a-Time 980 years, with 47 years already passed.

The scripture says that there was to be enmity, or hatred, between Satan and “the woman.” Additionally, there was to be hatred between Satan’s “seed,” or children, and the woman’s “seed,” or children. First of all, we need to find out who “the woman” is.
She is not an earthly woman. Satan has not had any special hatred toward any human female. Rather, this is a symbolic woman. That is, she stands for something else. This is shown in the Bible’s last book, Revelation, where more information is given about her. There “the woman” is described as being “adorned with the sun, standing on the moon, and with the twelve stars on her head.” To help us to find out who this “woman” represents, note what Revelation goes on to say about her child: “The woman brought a male child into the world, the son who was to rule all the nations with an iron sceptre, and the child was taken straight up to God and to his throne.”—Revelation 12:1-5, The Jerusalem Bible.
Learning who or what the “male child” is will help us to find out whom or what “the woman” represents. The child is not a literal person, just as the woman is not a real human female. The scripture shows that this “male child” is “to rule all the nations.” So the “child” represents God’s government with Jesus Christ ruling as King. “The woman,” therefore, represents God’s organization of faithful heavenly creatures. Just as the “male child” came forth from “the woman,” so the King, Jesus Christ, came forth from the heavenly organization, the body of loyal spirit creatures in heaven that work together to carry out God’s purpose. Galatians 4:26 calls this organization “the Jerusalem above.” So, then, when Adam and Eve first rebelled against God’s rulership, Jehovah made arrangements for a Kingdom government that would serve as a hope for lovers of righteousness.

In Revelation chapter 12, the woman is described as "clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars" (Revelation 12:1). Note the similarity between this description and the description that Joseph gave of his father Jacob (Israel) and his mother and their children (Genesis 37:9-11). The stars refer to the twelve tribes of Israel. So, the woman in Revelation 12 is Israel.

This goes back to the very first prophesy made in the Bible at Genesis 3:15 - "And I shall put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed. He will bruise you in the head and you will bruise him in the heel.”
It's speaking about the same woman in Revelation. This woman is God's heavenly kingdom, and the dragon it speaks of in Rev. 12:4 is Satan and his demons.
Most of the book of Reveltaion is symbolic, although there are parts of it that are actual also, you just have to study it and use reason.

Israel, we would have no salvation or hope of any kind outside of the Jewish people. It is through them we have been given the Light of the world, and the offspring the Devil fights at the close of this chapter is the Church, the Body of Christ. All those who believe in this Jewish Messiah we call Jesus.

i think it is Isreal as well as the church...the last verse says the "children" of the woman have the testimony of Jesus Christ......
the church is supposed to be raptured away by then...but the Word promises the salvation of the Jews which come to their messiah during the 7 years of tribulation.
