Ok, I will take some of your advice and go out on a limb and ask 1 of my several questions..............I believe in the Holy Spirit and I believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit, but I have yet to receive the gift of tongues which is available for everyone. I feel like when I try, I am just gibber jabbering and it's coming from me. Have any of you received it. If so, how does it come to you and any suggestions for me?

Praying in Tongues in your Prayer Closet or Delivering a Message in a Meeting of GOD's Children, with an Interpreter Present---have Two Different Effects.

1.Praying in Tongues in your Prayer Closet "Edifys" YourSelf (charges up your Spiritual Batteries--makes you Strong Spiritually)

That is why satan fights it so much with Doubt and UnBelief from Others and alot of Times, YourSelf!!!
satan gets You to doubt that it is Real.

If you have been Born-Again by Believing WHO Jesus Said HE Was, then All you have to do is Ask the Father to Fill You with The Holy Spirit, and your Filled. Whether you Feel AnyThing or Not.

The Holy Spirit will give you the "Utterance" when you chose to Pray in Tongues.
The Utterance is not "Making the Sound" that the Words are Formed From.

You supply the sound, The Holy Spirit will Lead and Guide you into "forming" the Words out of that Sound, which is the "Utterance".

GOD is a Gentleman, HE will not Take Over your Vocal Cords and Make you Talk.

There will be Times when you Think it isn't Real, that is satan trying to fool you.
If you Really Pray in Tongues Diligently (everday) and keep at it, you will Ascend up (mentally) into the Spiritual Realm, and once you do that, You Probably won't Ever Think that it is not Real.

Now, Delivering a Message in a Meeting of GOD's People will "Edify" (build-up)Them!!!
(and your in the meeting too, so it helps you too!)

Hope this Helps.

The best thing is to read the bible by itself. Let scripture help you understand scripture. Get a good translation - the New King James, the ESV, the NLT, the NIV, the NASB. Try to use a couple of different ones.

The second best thing is to go to someone in your church - the minister or a sunday school teacher ,etc. someone you already know, someone you know is a godly person. Mentoring means developing a relationship with someone you trust....

The third best thing is to go to a Christian bookstore or library and do some reading yourself - there are many good books - many poor ones too - but there are good commentaries, good bible study books.

The fourth best thing is to email me. I'll be glad to help you or point you in the right direction. But you don't know me and so I don't blame you for not trusting me. But i have been a Christian for many years and i love the Word of God very much...

The last thing in the world to do is to trust what people in this R & S section say! This R & S site is like mud-wrestling. Lots of fun but you gotta expect to get muddy.

god bless

This place is good. I always give Bible answers for Bible questions; LOVE to be of help and this forum is really good.., some folks are just annoying when they aren't Christians and like to be antagonistic. Pray for them and ignore them. There are some sensible believers here.

American Bible Society has an excellent site where I used to get assistance. I also use ChurchUSA - but there are many who get in disputes over scriptures there... could you hit that little pencil icon and tell us what Biblical question you have - we might be able to help.

Peace.

There are a lot of people here who will help, some who will mock you, others who will give slanted answers---often known as "fundies" ---and many level-headed folk who are quite knowlegable and balanced.

here is the trick---DO NOT BE OFFENDED.
EVER

EVER EVER EVER

chew the hay, spit out the sticks, develop a network of people who give rational answers. I would flatter myself as being a moderate, rational answerer of many questions---there are others. E-me if you wish for me to share some of my contacts with you---all the best, Brian

I agree with the guy, '3 posts' above me! There are a few genuine & sincere believers on here, who I am sure, would be humbly honored to answer your questions.

You could look through the posts here, find some people you trust, and ask them personally. I imagine most would be willing to answer you pretty quickly.

Contact one of Jehovah's Witnesses. I expect to get a lot of 'thumbs down' for my advice, but that just proves how close-minded people can be, but if you contact one of them, they will ensure that you will get a thorough, truthful and accurate knowledge of the Bible and the answers contained within it.
