I can listen to the music of today and not howl at it :-) But I still bang my head against the wall and chase my tail in bewilderment.

It all depends on what you dangle before the dog. If you throw the dog a bone and a dish of water, forget it. The dog thinks: ohhhhhh, another dry dull bone, and a dish of plain old water. Yuk. ZZZZZZZZ But, if you fix the dog a nice piece of meat, sweet and tender, with a couple of nice side disher, and a tasty dessert, I think the dog will do more that roll over -ahem- don't you?

For survival purposes I have had to reinvent myself many times after I was 49, I was a nanny, house cleaner, bartender, worked in a plant nursery, built all types of fence, learned to do taxes, went to work for the post office as a data conversion operator, became a caregiver--all depends on mind set and incentive--you can do it if you are forced with hunger and failure. I would say old dogs can learn any trick they set their eye on.

After all these yrs. why bother? If you are trying to learn because someone doesn't like you as you are, tell them to get lost. I'm sure you are just fine.Tell that person that the old dogs of today were the young dogs of yesterday who did learn new tricks to get where you are today!

Old dogs can learn new tricks - it just take more patience and work to get the behavior consistent. At times you have to unleash bad behaviors before you can teach the new wanted behavior

I don't know if this is double entendre or not...but if you are playing dead, you are not going to get much of a trick from your 'old dog.' When do you make up your shopping lists???

I know how to sit up & beg, but I choose NOT to because it only leads to more disappointment! I'd rather just lie there & watch people with my tail safely tucked out of the way. I'm still learning how to do many things that I should have learned as a young pup!!! Woof Woof@*~!

I think it is a give and take the learning curve. We teach as much as we learn.
