I was reading my Bible like I do everyday, because my pastor told me it makes God happy. While reading I stumbled on this verse:

“A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.”
-1 Timothy 2:11-12

Does this mean that Jesus is fine with women reading on Y! Answers as long as they don't post anything? I know women should never speak up at school to ask questions or share their views, but does the same apply for internet forums.

Technically, as long as they do not say anything then they are not in violation of Jesus' word, if we take it literally. Basically, I want to know if we should take the word of God literally and allow them to post, or should they be forbidden to engage in meaningful conversations online like they are in the real world.

Not all Christians are Biblical literalists; that's largely the domain of the Fundamentalists. Women have every right to post anywhere they like, and to freely speak their minds. As for men "allowing" them to post or "forbidding" them to engage in conversation, that's right out of the Stone Age. Part of my Christian beliefs includes honoring women as fellow (and equal) human beings, and not trampling their rights. I have always valued the opinions and advice of women.

You are an example of a man using scripture in a way to please your own views. Jesus states that there are no difference between male and female in the eyes of God. Many women served the faith in Jesus' day and still do. The verse about women remaining silent was a cultural thing and over the years culture has changed. If woman of faith don't speak up today, then maybe there would be no one to speak of the love of God and His saving grace.

This means a woman should not pastor a church.
That is what it means.
However women can lead OTHER women in bible studies, and I have seen men who actually WANT to be in that bible study-- however I have never been in a bible study with men and woman and a woman leading it- it is always a man who leads it if it is both sexes.
And we are to submit to our husbands- this verse goes along with that, full submission to knowing we are not to pastor a church or have authority over a man.
So we need to submit to that as well.
In the old days, women would ask their husbands at home any questions they had regarding the service in Church. They were to be quiet in church ( as most people are quiet during the service) and ask their husbands at home anything they were curious about or needed answers that had to do with what the Pastor said or what not...

Oh crap!!! I guess I'll just have to keep answering these until God changes His mind about this. ;) You really should ask someone what it means, like your preacher, or someone who understands this.

It is supposed to be about leading in a church. The men should be the ones with the priesthood, and women shouldn't lead. Also, it's talking about submission to God, following God's word and allowing her husband to lead the family in the way of God. If the man isn't leading the family right though, it's her responsibility to see that she teaches her family the right way. At least, that's what I get from it.

what it means by that scripture is that a woman should be in submission to her husband...respecting him as the head of the household.........it doesn't mean that a woman should be silent literally

Asking questions does not seem to violate your quotes. You need to go back to your preacher and learn more about his word.
