Yes - especially if it stinks!

I don't know that it would be rude, but you may ruin your socks! Why would you want to do that, when it would be so easy to simply find the host or hostess and ask politely for an ashtray?

You may also want to consider, that the reason there are no ash trays around, may be that the host/hostess prefers that you not smoke in their house. Just something to think about.

No prob Bob. Since you bought your shoes in the
flea market please feel free to use your shoes as
an ash tray. Dont forget after the dinner there
normaly a desert comes along and you can
finish off the night by using your shoe as cup.

Say hi to your host from Wolly will you.

Thanks buddy

Most definitely. If ashtrays are not supplied, that usually means that your host would prefer people not to smoke inside.

And I thought I had read some really off the wall questions before! Yes...it would be rude. As if you didn't know that already. And who invited YOU to their dinner party anyway?

do you really have to ask this??
and even IF the host's name is BUBBA or billy joe or tommy sue or anything of the sorts - the fact that this is a question should be answer enough.

Would it be any cleaner than the mouth you put that smoke in?

I've never heard of anyone doing this. I would say yes and under all circumstances.

Actually depends. “Bubba” your host may very well expect you to also drink out of it.
