The youth advisors at our church are stepping down because of having a new baby and stuff. So I am trying to throw them a thank you party as a way to show our appreciation for all that they have done. Any ideas for how to make it special? We are trying to go with a coffee house theme. I'm just not sure what to get the kids to do to show their thanks.

There's been so many questions on 'Yahoo! Answers' about Christmas and how early it has come. What I want to know is what is the earliest you've seen a Christmas advert on TV or Christmas items on sale in shops? (I thought it'd be a laugh).

Doesn't modern psychological basicall treat people with the same advice that Jesus gave. I know they don't identify it as such, but basically the principles are same, arn't they?

I love to be at home. Its comfortable and peaceful. After working all week from 8 to 5, I like to enjoy my time at home working in the yard, doing stuff inside, relaxing or just plan old doing nothing. I do enjoy going out however. I like going to the movies and out to eat, the occasional shopping. But it is not something I have to do. I'm not a hermit or antisocial. Every Sunday I go to church and eat with the family but when I get home I love it. I guess I"m a homebody. Can anyone else relate to this?

Both of them are filled with fantasy and fable but which one is a better read?

Mark Twain wrote about the bible; "It is full of interest. It has noble poetry in it; and some clever fables; and some blood-drenched history; and some good morals; and a wealth of obscenity; and upwards of a thousand lies."

I haven't read any Harry Potter but I am guessing it's better.

I need help locating a Bible verse.... I need the one where Jesus tells his disciples that they "know not what they say"... it's where they are agreeing with him, or something, and they really either don't understand or don't mean it...

How comes everytime something British goes over to America, it's changed? For example harry potter and the philsopher's stone, telly tubbies, the office etc etc

They completely changed the cast of the office for American actors and changed the storyline so that it's 'relvant' to Americans'. It's not the office then if it's a different cast!!!! I watch American programs all the time and i can get the drift 99.9% of the time to their references. Why cant it stay as it is? Is it that hard to understang what's happening/accents?

I live in a small town that is very religious. There is literally a church for every 5 people.

I am an atheist although I have respect for other people's beliefs. I know that my son will be influenced and hear about god often.

What do I say when he asks me about god and what I think? I don't want to say anything that will make him think that Christians are bad, or that we should hate them.

The main thing is that I want him to think for himself. I don't care if he grows up and wants to be a priest or a minister, as long as he made that decision for himself. But if he chooses to not believe in god I am afriad that he will make pretend that he does just to fit in with others.

I don't necessarily want him to believe exactly what I believe, I want him to think for himself and ask questions.

What are good ways to explain other religions to him? What are good ways to explain to him that I do not believe in god?

All I want is for him to be a good person. That is all I ask.

Although India's Muslims are ONLY 12% of the Indian population, they constitute the world's second largest muslim population. A reality which is even more saddening when one considers the fact that they were all supposed to leave India in 1947 and that India should theoretically not have a single Muslim living there.

At the rate that they are breeding, estimates indicate that by 2050 they shall possibly be 50% of the Indian population. This will have catastrophic consequences for India's already depleted and underdeveloped resources, infrastructure. But more importantly it shall cause great social and religious conflict, a civil war with another masses of killings and may even possibly bring about another partition of the country.

Do you agree with me that it is about time the Indian government starts to introduce incentives for Muslims to emigrate from India, in an endeavour to preserve Hindu demographic predominance and to preclude any possible future genocides???

If you don't smoke, and someone asks you whether you mind if they do, what do you say? I always end up being polite and telling them that it's OK, only to regret it 5 seconds later when they are virtually blowing smoke up my nose.

I usually know that there will be a bad atmosphere if I say no, and it's hard to tell a friend or family member that they can't smoke.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Religious fundamentalists are united by fear. Whether they are Christian, Muslim, or Jew, fear is the common denominator. They fear change, modernization and loss of influence. They fear that the young will abandon the churches, mosques and synagogues for physical and material gratification. They fear the influence of mass media and its ability to subvert the young with song, dance, fashion, alcohol, drugs, sex and freedom. They especially fear education if it undermines the teachings of their religion. They fear a future they can’t control, or even comprehend.

Perhaps it’s not surprising to realize that it is fear that also connects the myriad of nationalist, separatist and independence movements who also engage in political violence. Although experts, academics and analysts hypothesize about a multitude of causal effects that lead to violence and terrorism, fear is the underlying.

Again we are reminded that the Bible has and intensely practical purpose, to give guidance for human life. Life consists of the continuous round of experiences. Daily and hourly we undergo experiences that we find difficult to understand and interpret. Often these experiences tempt, confuse, damage, even overwhelm. Life becomes increasingly puzzling, difficult, dangerous, hard. How can I understand the meaning of it all?

Deuteronomy 32:39 "See now that I - I am he and there are no Gods with me". Isaiah 43:10 "Before me there was no God formed and after me there continued to be none. John 1:1 "In the beginning the word was, and the word was with God, and the word was A God." Surely if Jehovah had already said that there was no God with him, before him or after him this verse is incorrect, either that or Jehovah has lied, which is impossible as he cannot lie. Surely, the correct translation should be as in KJ which reads "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." As we know that Jesus is the Word then from these scriptures we can also say that he is God. I have heard the explanations using the 2 Corinthians 4:4 calling Satan the "god of this system of things". However, Satan, in this instance, made himself a god and as such is a false God, if we apply this premise to John 1:1 then it would also follow that Jesus was a false God, which of course he is not.

I recently answered a question on the subject of "gratefulness" and in my opinion, the bulk of answers given were thoroughly off the mark. God got all the glory for what others had done.

When you feel grateful, do you apply your thanks in the right direction and thank the folks you owe that grateful feeling to or do you bow your head and pray into empty space...?

I have a question for all you atheists out there. Do you just not believe in the christian/hindu/judaism/muslim faiths or do you reject the idea of any divine being being a possibility? I mean I can understand not wanting to be christian but not having any hope in afterlife or future..it just seems strange to me.

When i was 13 i was dating an older boy 16 who was very nice at first, one day he turned on me took me by surprise out of nowhere, he beat me up very bad, punched me in the stomach about 30 times, was mentally cruel. At the time I didnt understand what was happening, i didnt tell anyone because i was embarrased and confused. I even went out with again and he was nice and then beat me and verbally abused me again. I met a guy at a new HS when i was 15 and have not spoken to this ex ever again.
I'm 23 now, and commute to college. Ever since I was 15 I take a different path from my home to get to the bus/subway or for anything. its 3 minutes longer. He works in donut shop where my short path is. I havent walked there since I was 15. I think hes crazy and i dont want confrontations with him. Have not spoke to him since 15 and seen him only twice since and i gave him no eye contact at all.. Am I doing the right thing or do you think it gives him control over me that I walk a different path
