If you don't smoke, and someone asks you whether you mind if they do, what do you say? I always end up being polite and telling them that it's OK, only to regret it 5 seconds later when they are virtually blowing smoke up my nose.

I usually know that there will be a bad atmosphere if I say no, and it's hard to tell a friend or family member that they can't smoke.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I used to give permission in my early 20's, but I've said "no" to second hand smoke ever since some of my friends got cancer in their 20's. I am even more adamant now that I've had cancer in my 30's.

As an ex-smoker, I can tell you that if someone is considerate enough to ask "do you mind if I smoke", they will not be hurt if you respond politely that you would prefer they didn't smoke.

If they still light up, don't feel bad. Now, they're the A$$

I don't smoke, but I did grow up in a family full of smokers, so someone smoking a cigarette in the same room or car as me doesn't bother me.

Ask them to go in the garden or in a room that the windows can be opened and the children and other non smokers need not go in.

Just say they can smoke in the garden or the whatever.

You choose where you will permit it.

I'm not a smoker, but I don't mind when others do. They don't blow it in my face. If the air-filtration system blows it towards me, we change seats. There are no children in the house, and since I live in FL, we are often outside anyway. I am very concerned about the government trying to regulate our personal lives. We have parks and even apartments here where smoking is prohibited. What's next?

I simply say no. That if they'd like to smoke they can do it as far away from me as possible. I know it may sound harsh but when it comes down to your health it really shouldn't matter.

I am a smoker. I would suggest saying you are hyper-sensitive or have asthma/allergies. If they still smoke near you, they are insensitive and ask them to go elsewhere.

if someone asks if i mind, and i do, then i tell them i do mind, and to please go outside. i don't smoke, and if they want to pollute their lungs with it, then they can go outside. i'm a nice person, but i will not have them stinking up my home.
