Need more information, is this when the apostle said he would follow Jesus where ever he went or when the brothers asked for the positions on his right and left in glory?
The often misunderstood or didn't really understand the ramifications of their comments,
Even living and learning from Jesus didn't seem to give them a real edge on the understanding of the big picture
Matthew 15:16 "Are you still so dull?"

Forgive "them", for they "know not" what they do. Such is notably before the cross. After the cross it's destroy them all, with the Noahic and Sodomic sort of destruction, by Son of man revenge: Luke 17; Perhaps the biblical reason Son of man, or one like Son of man, should repent: Numbers 23:19. Pst: Daniel and Jesus qualify for being like Son of man; so does Johnny Law Law in Revelation, a latter end "worse" case scenario to avoid, as noted in Matthew 12:45, if a man does not give heed to sin(law) no more.
Children and servants differ nothing; Both are know nots, know not what their master doeth. Warn "them", that saying peace and safety in law worketh wrath is destructive, the "no escape" sort of destruction in 1Thessalonians 5:3; the saved and destroyed afterward in Jude 5, when following Moses' Law, is notably "both good and evil", ends with "evil".
The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Check out Luke chapter 23 at verse 34 where Christ says to the Father, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do." The context of His remark came in the midst of Jesus being crucified.

It's possible that you're searching for Matthew 20: 20-23.
The Mother of James and John asks Jesus to seat her sons at his right and left when he comes into his Kingdom.

Are you talking about John 8: 19-27?
This is where Jesus was talking to some Pharisees and he was trying to tell them that he was God but they didn't understand and Luke said "They understood not".

Joel 2:32 "And it must occur that everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will get away safe; for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will prove to be the escaped ones, just as Jehovah has said, and in among the survivors, whom Jehovah is calling.” which is quoted in Acts 2:16-21 16 On the contrary, this is what was said through the prophet Joel, 17 ‘“And in the last days,” God says, “I shall pour out some of my spirit upon every sort of flesh, and YOUR sons and YOUR daughters will prophesy and YOUR young men will see visions and YOUR old men will dream dreams; 18 and even upon my men slaves and upon my women slaves I will pour out some of my spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. 19 And I will give portents in heaven above and signs on earth below, blood and fire and smoke mist; 20 the sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the great and illustrious day of Jehovah arrives. 21 And everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved.”’

Could it be:
Luke 23:34
Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
Mark 10:38
But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?
Luke 9:55
But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.

Is this it?
"But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able."
