I'm sure you all have heard this story if not here is the link:http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/08/10/schoolyard.killings/index.html

But my question is, they have arrested 2 people so far, and one is a teenager and the other is an undocumented worker(illegal alien). Will the teenager be eligible for the death penalty since they are trying to try him as an adult. I know they will most likely pursue the death penalty against the illegal immigrant since the crime was gruesome and he committed another felony while killing them, but don't you think that this is the main reason why people are against illegal aliens, because the high rate of crime SOME of them committ.

I use the telephone frequently in my work. How long should you remain on "hold" before hanging up.
1. If I called the person and they put me on hold, or
2. If they called me, and put me on hold.
Thanks.

Ok...yesterday I went to my friend's house and her older sister and her older sister's boyfriend (both in their twenties) were there when we got in. I'm black, they're white and I believe the boyfriend was visiting from Connecticut or something. We live in upstate New York.
The boyfriend seemed really like...uncomfortable around me. I felt him looking at me when I wasn't looking at him...he looked really nervous and it started making ME uncomfortable. :(

Everytime I go to a restaurant or something, there's always a white person (usually a guy) staring like they're trying to keep an eye on us or something...and I'm not being paranoid because I used to think I was being paranoid, then I realized that it really wasn't in my imagination. It's REALLY annoying and I hate it.

It's happened so much that the next time someone does it, I'm just gonna wave at them and smile and to make THEM feel stupid. Is that a good solution lol?

I’ve ran into a ton of woman who love to lie about this.

I ask a simple question like " What country you from ???

and they tell you " Oh I am a mutt I am 1/2 Chinese, 1/3 Italian, 1/9 Dutch, 1/30 Swiss, 1/90th Norwegian, 1/5 German , 1/8 French, 1/3 Portuguese, 1/2 Chiwawa and part German Shepard……and ummmm….Oh yeh and part native American ( they usually say Cherokee )……

WHy Cherokee? Is that the only tribe you can think of? Just Pathetic !!

Why do they feel like they have to lie and make stuff up when they have no idea where their ancestors are from?

If you don't know.......DON'T make stuff up! It's silly! You are not any cooler by making stuff up!

Just to let you know it is VERY ANNOYING!! You must have low self esteem....to make stuff up to try to make your self sound exotic.

DONT DO IT!!

I am from Central America ( El Salvador) I am light skinned with light hair and hazel eyes. When people ask me where I am from. I DONT say

"oh I am part Mayan Indian and Spanish “

Im from the northern US and my GF is from Southern US. I visited her family the other day. When dinner was ready I felt really awkward. Because the mom served the father and me first. And they waited and waited. I just sat there stareing at them and they were like arent you going to eat? I said yea as soon as you guys get your plate. Then they all gave me a weird look and my GF just motions eating in front of me so I started to eat with the father. Then the daughters and mother got their plates. Then after that I went to help with the dishes and the father looked at me like I was a moron and he said boy get outta the kicthen unless your a (slur for gay people). I know I was raised that my mom cooks the dinner and so we should do the dishes. Was this family just weird or is this Southern tradition that the men get their food first and leave the kitchen right after their done eating? Any other traditions that someone can warn me about?

Mayan

The Maya of Mesoamerica creation story is recounted in the book "Popol Vuh". Tepeu and Gucamatz came together to create the world. Whatever was thought of by Tepeu and Gucamatz came into being. Next for creation are the creatures of the forest: birds, deer, jaguars and snakes. They are told to multiply and scatter, and then to speak and "pray to us". But the animals just squawk and howl. So Tepeu and Gucumatz try to make some respectful creatures from mud. But the results are not great, and they allow the new race to be washed away. They call upon their grandparents, who suggest wood as an appropriate medium. But the wooden people are just mindless robots, so Tepeu and Gucumatz set about the destruction of this new race by means of a rain-storm. This causes the animals to turn against the wooden people; even their pots and querns rebel, and crush the peoples' faces. The wooden people escape to the forests and are turned into monkeys. Heart-of-Sky then make yet another attempt at creating a suitably respectful race, and finally succeed by fashioning humans out of maize-corn dough.

I asked this in a previous question and just got argumentative responses b/c I involved my beliefs. So please just answer the question to your best ability, and understand that my beliefs have nothing to do with this question, I am simply trying to understand your (if you are an Atheist) account?

As an atheist, we have to think logically, so we have to leave all options open, all conclusions are tentative.

When we die we believe there is nothing and so we will never truly know if we are right.

I think that that is the case with everyone since I think we all die the same, but either way, right now it's annoying.

There will never be any vindication.

Did the ancient Greek/Romans think incest, cheating, and beastiality were okay?

in so doing, they are assuming absolute laws of logic and borrowing from the Christian worldview.

A. The Christian worldview maintains that the laws of logic are absolute because they come from God who is Himself absolute.
B. But the atheist worldview does not have an absolute God.
So, we ask, "How can absolute, conceptual, abstract laws be derived from a universe of matter, energy and motion?"
In other words, "How can an atheist with a naturalistic presupposition account for the existence of logical absolutes when logical absolutes are conceptual by nature and not physical, energy, or motion?" If the Atheist states that the laws of logic are conventions (mutually agreed upon conclusions), then the laws of logic are not absolute because they are subject to "vote."

How does the atheist account for the laws of logic?

If not, don't you think you might be being close minded.

As an atheist I could give you a list of things that would disprove most everything I believe.

Can you do that?

“Role models” like amateur porn star Paris Hilton and her underwear-challenged cohorts Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan are prompting more and more young girls to “go wild,” but with negative consequences.

Mental health experts say more and more youngsters are being influenced by the “sexualization of girls,” a term coined in a report released earlier this year by the American Psychological Association.

Yesterday I ran an errand with my youngest. We went to the store to buy candy for his classmates. He loves candy, not to eat but to share. His favorite game is to share out any candy he gets, taking one piece, and then another to each person in the room. If we don't stop him he will give it all away and have none for himself. He is the most beautiful person I know.

One day, maybe soon, maybe long years away, he will be cold and still. Everything I have, I only have for a short while. All that I care about will be lost and forgotten. It's a simple fact.

Things are what they are, it is how I chose to feel about them that gives me sorrow or joy. I broke an old piece of family china. I was sad, but china breaks. Knowing that mades its loss easy to accept. People die. Knowing that make my death easy to except.

What does that leave me? I have today. Best that it isn't drowned in sad memories, or lost in dreaming hopes for tomorrow. I have a chance to live fully in what time I have.
