Can someone explain to me why catholic churches have statues of Mary outside their churches, schools ect.?? when there is this in the bible...

"You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Or am I taking this out of context? Please explain.

"To the woman He gave nine curses and death: the burden of the blood of menstruation and the blood of virginity; the burden of pregnancy; the burden of childbirth; the burden of bringing up the children; her head is covered as one in mourning; she pierces her ear like a permanent slave or slave girl who serves her master; she is not to be believed as a witness; and after everything--death." [Leonard J. Swidler, Women in Judaism: the Status of Women in Formative Judaism, Metuchen, N.J: Scarecrow Press, 1976, p. 115]

"Praised be God that he has not created me a gentile. Praised be God that he has not created me a woman. Praised be God that he has not created me an ignoramus." [Swidler, op. cit., pp. 80-81]

"I find more bitter than death the woman who is a snare, whose heart is a trap and whose hands are chains. The man who pleases God will escape her, but the sinner she will ensnare....while I was still searching but not finding, I found one upright man among a thousand but not one upright woman among them all." [Ecclesiastes 7:26-28]

"No wickedness comes anywhere near the wickedness of a woman.....Sin began with a woman and thanks to her we all must die." [Ecclesiasticus 25:19,24]

I've heard from some people on this site that the serpent that tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden was Lucifer. I was under the impression that it was just an evil, tricky serpent, and not Lucifer because Lucifer wasn't allowed in the garden.

Can any Christian with a knowledge of theological interpretation enlighten me? Cites would be ideal. Thanks.

A lot of christians wonder why atheists visit this site and frequent this forum. The question is asked almost every single day. Well, for me, to be honest with you it isn't that I'm trying to defend my thoughts, it's that I'm trying to cure you of yours. You don't realize that you're mentally sick. You've been convinced of invisible entities that grant your wishes and cleanse you of something (original sin) that isn't real, but that you've been convinced without proof that you have.

I know you believe this stuff, and you will until you get some help. I'm here for you. When you decide that you no longer want to be held by the chains of the people that shame you into giving them your money, I can teach you how to set yourself free. This is an honest effort to reach out to you. You can be sin free and worthy of being alive. You already are, you simply let certain ideas convince you that you aren't.

If you truly want to be set free, let me know. I can help you.

To say categorically, "There is no God," is to make an absolute statement. For the statement to be true, I must know for certain that there is no God in the entire universe. No human being has all knowledge. Therefore, none of us is able to truthfully make this assertion.

If you insist upon disbelief in God, what you must say is, "Having the limited knowledge I have at present, I believe that there is no God." Owing to a lack of knowledge on your part, you don't know if God exists. So, in the strict sense of the word, you cannot be an atheist. The only true qualifier for the title is the One who has absolute knowledge? So wouldn't you be agnostic" - one who claims he "doesn't know" if God exists?

ON THE OTHER HAND:

I understand that Christians to claim that "God does exist" For the statement to be true, I must know for certain that there is a God in the universe. No human being has all knowledge. Therefore, none of us is able to truthfully make this assertion.
